I'd quit too.

I was watching that when it happened.... not to often I get worried during a crash since the cars are so well built, but that one made me wonder if I was watching the very end for Bruce. SCARY.

I watched that on TV, pretty scary how that car just comes apart. Didn't the NHRA mandate better chassis work and roll cages after that wreck?
I know weight is a killer in the drags, but so is a car ripping the floor from under your feet and taking most of the roll protection with it. Nascar could teach those chassis builders a thing or two abour protection.

Actually, other than a concussion he was essentially unscathed. If you watch it closely you'll see the driver's cell stayed together, which is pretty amazing considering the speed of the impact. He didn't even break a bone, though a couple of fingers got twisted up pretty badly and a chunk of something went into his eye. He was kept in the hospital overnight for observation and released the next day.

Yeah the guy who ran under him was injured more, if I recall. Broken leg or something like that, and some messed up fingers?

Actually Doc, almost the entire passenger side of the cage was ripped from the car - Allen's seat and harness was still intact - and the chassis rails were really twisted up. I think there was some serious concern about chassis build quality for the Pro class.

When I watched it, I was thinking" Holy fuck!" It was one of those things you hope to never see happen, but still want to see every replay from every possible angle.

I think the fingers were Allen's problem--he was reaching for his chute release when the car swung left and got hit. Still, the fact that he essentially walked away is amazing, when you consider the "minor" crashes (comparatively speaking) that killed Eric Medlen and Dale Earnhardt.
