Homemade Apple Pie Wine...

dustergal

I have serious issues, so I'm
Just made a batch today, the whole house smells like apple pie. Damn is it good.

Homemade Apple Pie Wine

1 gallon apple cider
2 quarts apple juice
3 cups of sugar
7 cinnamon sticks
1 pint of Everclear

In a large pot, bring to a boil everything except for the Everclear. After it boils, simmer for ½ hour, making sure to stir occasionally to dissolve all the sugar. Remove from heat, and add Everclear and stir. Let it cool completely.

Remove cinnamon sticks and strain through a coffee filter. Pour into sterilized bottles. You can drink this warm or cold. Warm is good...mmmmm warm apple pie. It is ready instantly, no waiting.

Makes 6 quarts.

Now, since the “original” 190-proof Everclear is illegal in several states including Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Washington, California, Michigan, Ohio, Florida, Virginia and West Virginia, you can look for Everclear 151, which is 151-proof (duh). If you still can’t find that, use 100-proof vodka. Absolut, Smirnoff, Stolichnaya, McCormick and Popov all make them.

Sounds good, but I have a question.

100% alcohol equates to 175 proof...
"pure, 100% alcohol had (7÷7) × 175 = 175 degrees proof spirit"

What's 190 proof?
(x÷7) × 175 = 190 degrees proof spirit
(x÷7) = 190 ÷ 175
x = 190 ÷ 175 × 7
X= 7.6

So, 190 degrees proof equals (7.6÷7) % ABV
which is 1.0857142857142857142857142857143% ABV.

You can't have more than 100% by volume because adding more pure alcohol increases the volume proportionately.

I think that the only way to have more alcohol by volume than 100% is to measure it at a different temperature. So, I need to know what that temperature is... then I'll drink all my hooch at that temperature and get looped that much quicker.

And I think the best we can find here in Ontario is Alcool at 40% ABV which is 70 proof.

(2.8÷7) × 175 = 70 degrees proof spirit

Time for a run across the river to NY!!

Oh, sorry. I just found a 95% on the Ontario liquor Board website.... That'll do.
(6.65÷7) × 175 = 166.25 degrees proof spirit

Still. My question stands.

CORKS----March 21st - Cork:bwuhaha::bwuhaha::bwuhaha::bwuhaha:

After cracking open a couple bottles, my advice is to increase the Everclear. Not quite enough buzz factor. Next time I'll put in about 3 cups per batch, instead of 2. And in my opinion it tastes best warmed up. Good stuff for a cold day.

Dammit! That stuff sounds awesome but it would require a roadtrip for certain ingredients. I hate PA sometimes... :doubt:
