Holey Rusted Metal!

Or maybe I should have titled it "I SERIOUSLY F'D UP THIS TIME!!!"

I really should've taken a closer look before I pulled the trigger.

I have pics of my Challenger, the '74 360 Rallye, ummm, Doc I may give Kevin a run for his monies on this one...

Pics...

Shit, you're not even in the ballpark. Kevin's car does have a dash and a VIN, though. :D

I think the '70 was actually in better shape externally. :wall:

Still, don't poop your pants until you get pictures of the underside and floors. Although that rear bumper falling off isn't exactly confidence-inspiring, all is not lost until you know it's lost. Besides, someone's got to want a B5/black stripe E58 car if the VIN is available and the numbers match.

I have the VIN tag and dash frame. The 360 is still in it.

Did you really decode that fender tag?

I'm not getting rid of this one, it's coming home and I'm going to replace every last piece of sheet metal if it kills me. It needs rails, not sure how many though.

Like the Binky guys I'm not going to risk dipping or blasting it, not sure enough will make it through.

The seats? It has a clear VIN.

It's a long term project, and I think I have the knowledge and patience to complete it, I think.

With a proper plan I can bring her back.

That'll buff right out :bravo:

Take your time and make sure you wear a breather while grinding/sanding the rust off. Also might want a tetanus shot in case of a rusty metal cut...

I decoded what I could from the date tag by manipulating it in Photoshop. It was a half-hearted attempt since the photo is at such miserable resolution, but I got the stripes, vinyl top (which was black as near as I can tell), engine and transmission out of it anyhow. No, I didn't save my efforts to post. The US build spec is clearly visible. :D The interior is easy: Vinyl buckets with console--just like all automatics were in '74--in this case probably black, which is verified by what's visible inside the car. The only way to get a different interior was by choosing another color or ordering a manual transmission. The manual transmission made the console optional.

Get yourself a body service manual, both an original Chrysler-issued one (the reproductions are junk by comparison) and one digitally, such as the Bishko ones on CD sold on eßay. The Bishko one is nice because you can print off individual pages if you like, and if they get destroyed or lost it's no biggie. But if you've got to reference a lot of pages, flipping back and forth in the garage (think wiring diagrams), you'll be much happier with a decent used original. OE manuals for the '74 were pretty plentiful and reasonably priced when I got mine. Obviously, you'll want to get an OE service manual as well for the non-body stuff.

You know you can always count on any help I can give, via phone or email. Wish I was closer. I used to love working on the rough stuff.

I appreciate that Resto!

Doc I'm trying to get my idiot brother to pull the tag off and send it to me. Hopefully I can decipher it from the back side. Looks like I'm going to need to get a new one made up though.

Not anywhere near a close to as rusty as Kevins car. Not even on the same planet!
