Hmmm.....how far in debt do i want to go

Well, i've been thinking of my college choices after i'm done here at the local college (its a small state center, they don't have much here, just the basic cources), i'll do either one semester or one year stint here to get some basic classes out of my way, and i was thinking of transfering to one of two colleges. One being UW Madison, though they are highly selective and I have a feeling they'll over look me cause I don't think I have the required highschool classes they're looking for (small engines, auto's, advanced auto's, technoligy seminar....don't think thats Madison matterial  ), the other is a local private college, that pretty much already wants me (or my money) in their door. Thing is, they're going to be almost $20K a year [smilie=2: , but (since the Major i want to go into is Japanese language and i was sugested to go into the JET program for either teaching or translation) the local private college has a branch in Tokyo, which is the same price as here and credits will transfer and they have an even more extensive Japanese cource than they do here (they have basic elementery here). I already filled out my FAFSA form and its been filed, and finnacial aid is available from them.

So, if theres a chance, to go to Madison. I'd have to (no choice in the matter) do two years here at the center, then transfer over to Madison and do 4 more years there (providing i can do everything in that amount of years) totaling 6 years worth of college and fee's

Or (i could still even apply now.....i'm tempted to) do one semester, or one year here at the center, do two years at the private college in the local level, then finnish my last two in Japan and possibly stay there in the country for awhile (it'd piss my mom off big time cause she'd miss me, but i'd certainly visit) but go into serious finnacial debt (depending on the aid i get).

I know a good education is priceless, but, if its not going to get me anywhere......you see what I'm saying. I'll be doing a tour of the private college on the weekend v.i.a. my brothers girlfriend who goes there. And if i have any more questions or need anymore info, i work second shift, so i could stop in for a quick Q and A sesion.

We'll see how it goes, it's already april so if i want to apply to that private college, nows the time (though rumor has it that the private college accepts transfered credits and cources from the local UW that corispond with their classes). I'm still thinking of atleast one semester here at the UW cause its cheap as hell (like only $1,000 for a full-time semester)

I'll let you guys know how it goes. For now, i'm just looking at ways to get the D100 moving for cheap.

This one.:)

Yeah, i'm thinking of the second choice too, though i'll hold off untill i get done with the tour of the place this weekend, then i can see the whole layout they have going on there to see if i like the place (and if i'm willing to jump into the shark infested waters known as student loans) Cause as much as i like to go to Madison, and it is truley a great school (and i could bug 68 all the time :shifty: ) I don't feel like waiting and possibly have to pay more for schooling.

And XL, give me a chance to get there first  LOL, i'll be sure to send you one lol

Spending time in another country is worth a whole lot more than anything a book can teach. If you can swing it financially, go that route.

On the other hand you need to figure out what you're going to get out of the education and is it worth the investment. Do you know what kind of work you want to do later on? Would one path of learning offer up more opportunity? Is that worth the extra investment up front?

Of course, there's no guarantees, but if you've got a plan, it will make decisions like this a whole lot easier.

Well, got done with the "unofficial" tour of the campus....I F'N LOVE IT (and incase anyone was wondering, they have a pub, yes i said pub, the kind with alcohol, on campus). I'm filling out the financial aid form and the application (i'd do the aplication online, but i got my fee waved on the paper copy, so why not). And i got one of the administrators direct line number to set up an offical tour to help me get situated with the place. Nothings quite offical yet (i still have the local state campus as a back up), but either way, i'm heading to college this year unless something really goes down. I'd still have a little credit card debt going into college, but it won't be significant (thats if i don't get hired on at the factory i work at, my current pay rate is $8.60, they start at $15 an hour when your hired on, but i have about 5 months to get that paid off untill school starts). But i'm going to get a job on campus and be living there if my plan works. I'll be able to go to Japan for a semester during my sofmore year, then finish my schooling in the states. So, sadly to say, the D100 will sit, and the truck will get sold (the dakota i mean, anyone looking for a project truck? I got a rebuilable magnum 360 block that goes with the truck?) and i'll sell my 305 short block i have too (if anyone wants that too, let me know. I have no means of shipping yet so i'd be local pickup on both). That money will all be thrown at my credit card to slice it down to size before school starts. :giggedy: :bravo: I just hope i get in!!

Little secret...if you tell them you love them... they put out![smilie=d:

experience is best. Japan it is like all the other ole timers are saying. You learn the culture first hand and the slang japanese. You could sit somwhere and have someone tell you about the culture or experience it first hand.

What exactly do you want with your education? Thats the main question.

Like i said before ... pick the school with the hotest girls. I shoulda thought of that when i applied to my current school *mumbles about the sausage fest classes*

Actully, i thought with the head on the top of my body first LOL, the Japanese girls are just a bonus

But i also picked it from reputation as well as the fact that they work with the JET program, so i can find a job in Japan after my schooling is done.

I'll post if i get in, should know in a day or so...i hope :helpme:

Hot damn!!! All goes well, I'll be invaiding Japan in a year LOL!! I just hope i don't f-up, cause this is all out of my pocket. So, sorry guys, the D100 is going to have to sit for a few years, but all goes well, I'll have a better paying job after to help make up for lost time. And if I plan it right, on my summer breaks, work on the D100 while doing the cheap/free stuff (like rebuilding the dash asseblby, thats done) so when time comes around for money, i should have a better job :giggedy: I'd love me a hot rod D!!

So, as you can tell by my irrational exuberance, I am quite thrilled to be going into this kind of debt LOL And I'm going to college TO BE IN COLLEGE, and learn something, not just because of the :quaff: and :nanna: though i may sample those when I'm there too LOL

This should inspire you. 13.6 at 5800 feet altitude. Clean hot rod truck. :)

For now I can dream of only what my D100 can do, I'm hoping theres a movement twords ethenol, cause that would determin if the D100 is going to be a low HP close to stock street cruiser, or a pavement pounder
