Hit a deer

I got another deer last week. This one I got with a different weapon. I was going at least 50 mph and that deer (an 8 pointer) could not be found. The damages are $7200. How could that thing have gotten away after the hit it took? here's a pic.

Sheesh, that does suck. Glad you weren't hurt.

My husband hit a deer last year, the thing hit the hood and flew up over the roof, POOPING on the windshield on the way over, then landed behind the car and took off running.:wtf:

DG that was an ignorant ass deer... shoulda told hubby to throw it in reverse and finish the fugger off.... and that sucks 4406pak guy.... i hate them damn deers

Deer whistles may have helped in avoidance. A brand called Hobie was rated the best when I was looking for them.Used to use them up north as well to scare the moose off the road ahead. Saw a tractor trailer that hit a moose, was a nice big rig with a large sleeper on back before it hit the moose. When I saw it i, it was a frame with a bumper and an engine and tranny. Everything above the bumper was gone. Consider yourself lucky it was just a deer you hit. Your truck is still repairable and your pants washable. The deer probably only survived to get a few hundred yards into the bush. Things could have been worse.

Had a few deer incidents of my own, certainly gets your attention!

So that's what $7200 of damage to a Nissan looks like? Yikes.

Ouch, nobody injured, and a car is replacable, I'd say ya done good...

Lucky for him. A friend of mine hit one in high school with a late 80s/early 90s F-250. It came over the hood and through the windshield. Neither of them made it. :(

Damn, sorry to hear you hit a deer and glad you are ok. Those words are bad to see, HIT A DEER  I remember hitting a deer doing 50 or so in my 75 Cordoba, spun me around and pushed the grille in a bit where the hood would scrape against it barely but it did not break the grille and the car was not hurt at all besides the re-aligned grille. The deer however never even got up. I shudder to think what might happen if I hit a deer with my neon :naughty: that low hood would catapult the deer right up into the cab. :dgt:

This is gonna sound insulting, and it isn't intended that way: Get rid of the nissan and get a real truck. I recommend a dodge with a cummins in it-it'll get better mileage than the nissan with the v8. No kidding. Also, the next time a dumbass deer springs out like a jack in the box, you'll smash the piss out of it and keep on riding.

I have a window sticker on the dually that I had custom made. It says:

The highways-an IQ test for our furry friends

I've gotten to the point where I have no sympathy for anything that sees you coming and just runs right on out. I'm sorry, that's just retarded. If an animal is stupid enough to do the dumb shit, I'll get a free oil plug inspection.

Yeah, I thought of that too, that it might have went through the windshield. Scary stuff.

Yea, I know I should have a MOPAR but I I wanted something different at the time. I'll be getting a new truck after this, I dont have any luck with them after they have been wrecked. There are too many things that can go wrong after a hit. I was thinking about getting a used truck this time around so I can have some extra cash for my GTX project.

Like I said, I wasn't trying to make fun of you. I recommend a dodge with a cummins not just because it's a dodge, but because it's the best diesel pickup. You literally will get better mileage with one of those in good shape than you did with the nissan. Not only that, but you have some structure around you, and can pull several times what the nissan could, if you should need to. It's a win-win situation-get a used one and avoid the depreciation.

dont the cummins dodges have a stouter frame than a stock truck?....you just got me thinking...a cummins in a 70s ramcharger

Not necessarily. Here's my understanding:

1st gen '89-'93 The diesels are stronger. In fact, there was some sort of recall done to strengthen them.

2nd gen '94-'02 The 1 tons are the same, gas or diesel. The 3/4 tons are weaker for the gas burners than the 3/4 ton diesels.

3rd gen '03-current ALL diesels, 3/4 ton or 1 ton, are the same. The current ones are also easily the strongest. A short ride over a bumpy road will convince you of that, as you can feel the tightness in the structure of the truck vs the older ones.

To anyone considering putting a cummins in something that it didn't come in, bear this in mind:

It weighs between 1000 and 1100 lbs dry, complete with all accessories. That's JUST THE ENGINE. The lightest transmission I know of for them weighs 250 lbs, without the clutch. The autos are probably heavier.

This weight will most likely make a mockery (and origami) of any dodge 1/2 ton front suspension and steering setup. Remember the problems the older dodges had ('72-'93) with the frame tearing where the steering box is? The vans had it too, and I've seen it on both several times. It will literally rip the area of the driver's side front frame loose. Apparently that part was not strong enough to resist the forces acting upon it from the steering box over the years. I've welded and gusseted up several myself when I worked in a muffler shop.

The frame is inadequate; the brakes are inadequate; the normal wheels and tires are inadequate. The frame can be made strong enough if you're decent with a welder. I guess you could change over to 1 ton springs and front end components, assuming the mounting points for the control arms and such are the same. I don't know that they are, I'm just guessing.

Even a set of springs for a 440 truck will probably sag, maybe just enough to give it a good stance. A diesel motor and trans combo probably weighs at least 500 lbs more than an equivalent 440 and trans combo.

Oh, the rearend. Your ramcharger did not come with a rearend adequate to withstand the torque these things can put out. Your ramcharger was not even AVAILABLE with a rearend that can take it. Not doing any real towing, or even dragracing.

An 8 1/4 won't cut it.
A 9 1/4 won't cut it.
A dana 60 won't cut it.
A dana 70 HD will probably cut it.
A dana 80 will cut it.

If you want to do it for mileage, do yourself a favor and get a 4bt instead. That's the 4 cylinder version of the same engine-just a 5.9 with two cylinders whacked off. It "only" weighs what an all iron 440 does or a little more. That's a much more manageable package, especially when it comes to putting it in. The length would be easy to deal with, vs a 5.9 which I'm 99.9% sure is longer than a slant 6. If you manage to find one with the inline injection pump (called a p pump, the 6 cylinder version is the bosch p7100 pump) all the normal hotrod tricks for the 5.9 will work. Fuel plates, governor spring kits, etc. It should all go right in. I'd think you could make 250 hp and 500 ft/lbs or so without too much trouble, using the 4 cylinder.

I hit one on a test drive once... brand new S10 ZR2 took out the right fender passenger door and whole bedside...never did go back and finish the deal on that pos
