Hey! There’s no easy button for a body like this!
Well I finely got my registration from the state and was able to take my charger out for a spin last night. WOW does this thing rip. It has never run this hard!
When I bought the car it still had the thermo-quad on it but the float bowl was warped and allowed fuel to be sucked out of the float bowls and directly into the ventures. This, needless to say made for a very rich mixture. I have a 600 holly that I used on the car until I could find a good center section for the carb and let me tell you the power took a serious hit but the gas mileage picked up and you could stand near the car and breath.
I found last fall that you can have 10 thousandths milled off the top of the fiber float bowel section of the thermo-quad and I had that done, I rebuilt the carb and made all of the adjustments (bends) to the different carb linkages according to my factory service manual and slapped her on the intake. I hooked up the old vac gauge and set the idle, played with the metering rod adjustment a little and set the fast idle speed (bent the rod again) and I finely got to drive it last night. Let me tell you this thing is a hoot. It has never run this good.
For the first time since I bought this car I can be at a complete stop at idle and just stab the gas and it doest bog to a stall or pop through the carb and then go. It just tears the tires loose and revs hard with no complaints.
I think the next thing I am going to do is pull the 3.23 open rear diff out and install my 3.91 sure grip and really have a good time.
