Heart transplant on the DUSTER......

dustergal

I have serious issues, so I'm
We yanked the 318 out of the Duster and the 360 my husband and I built is up and running. And it didn't explode! (yet [smilie=e: )

We painted the engine to match the car. It was my idea, I like to color coordinate. I'm such a girl. It's not factory original and I don't care.

Anyway, here's what I've got now:

-360 bored .030 over.
-Aerohead J castings with 2.02/1.60 stainless
valves.
-CompCams XE262H hydraulic cam.
-SpeedPro hypereutectic pistons, 10 to 1 compression.
-Edelbrock AirGap intake with Eddy 750 carb.
-MSD ignition with Blaster 3 coil.
-Flowtech 1 5/8 primaries 3" collectors going to 2 1/2" exhaust with 40 series Flowmasters.
-727 trans with Mopar Performance 166K stall converter.
-8 3/4 rear with 3.23 gears and a Sure-Grip.

So far I've racked up 170 miles on it, and my husband won't let me get on it until it is all broken in. Only 330 more miles to go. I can't wait to really try her out, she sounds beautiful. [smilie=e:

Yeah, the master cylinder looks like crap. I just say it's got "patina". And the air cleaner was borrowed from my hubby's Challenger. He wants it back. I don't care, it's orange and doesn't match anything, anyway. [smilie=e:

Looks great! [smilie=e: Nice work , those masters rust up real quick, forgot to clear the one I put in the 74, after a few months it looks right at home in the nasty old bay! [smilie=e: Rich.

I like the green engine block. It looks good in there. Nice work you two.

Any pics of you two getting dirty?

Naw. I don't look pretty while working on cars. I wear ripped up flannel shirts, get tranny fluid in my hair, I've got paint streaks down both arms, and my manicure is totally ruined with all the grease under my nails. [smilie=e:

Did I mention the little wire from the wire wheel that flew off and imbedded itself in my.....ah, never mind. Wrong forum.

Thanks for the compliments guys, we've worked so hard on the old girl and it's nice to hear that others like her, too. [smilie=::

Lucky man ya got there...

Looks good! Sounds like it should run hard for you, too.

[smilie=e: The "break-in" period? Is that what my coming out of the garage totally sideways with the brand-new 440 in my Charger was? :D

Once the cam break-in is done, I feel no compunction about beating it silly... just like most racers.

Drive it like you stole it is my motto. But in all reality short bursts of WOT and then back off helps the rings bite sooner, air cooled is a different story due to heat buildup. On a nice cool day you can spank them hard but dont try it at 90 plus ambient temps you will fry it. If your oil pressure starts dropping off shut it down for a while and be nice.

Interesting info. Luckily the oil pressure has been strong and steady from day one. Maybe it's time to work it a little harder. I'll show your post to my hubby. Thanks [smilie=::

Yup same here. [smilie=a: The 451 was unrelenting in its fury as it liquified the tires in a "shakedown" run with with only 2 miles on the clock.

Go or blow......

Yep after the cam brake in just run it. I have built many circle track engines and break-in consisted of 20 minutes of varying throttle kept above 2000 R.P.M.'s after that take it to the track and flog it. I raced and helped buddies race for 12 years and this is how we did it every season and we never broke one.

That looks great!

An air filter set up to match the valve covers would look good when you have to give back that one to your friend.

Yeah, like that Mopar performance piece....paint the black crinkle green! It would look cool!
