Hard bargain.

"How much for the 440 in that Tioga camper van?"
"That's a 318."
"Oh, OK. How much for the enormous 318 with the distributor at the wrong end in that Tioga camper van?"
"I thought that was a 318....?"
"My friend figured it would have a 360. I actually looked."
"Damn. I guess I never did."
"Obviously. How much?"
"Do you want the trans with it?"
"Absolutely not."
"OK, lemme think... [long pause] You're taking the transmission anyhow. $300."
"You want that check made out to you, or the business?" :D

Just another day dealing with my favorite junkyard owner, who's humor is drier than a popcorn fart. He also detests splitting automatics from engines he pulls for some reason. I wasn't gonna bicker over the transmission since it's an HD version with the wide front drum and extra planetary pinion. I'll just Craigslist it for cheap, unless someone here wants to get it out of my way.

weve went from stealing engines from "big" unwanted cars, to 4drs and wagons and now to MH's cause no one lets those cars we once yanked engines from go that easy

Hey, the bonus of the Class C motorhome is that there's no possibility of the oddball water-jacketed exhaust ports or the useless long-flange block and wacky protruding crankshaft. Never mind the fact that it's got like 10 miles on it since Tioga pushed it out the door new. :D

What do I want for the transmission? Residence somewhere other than my premises. That's what I wanted for it in the first place. :D

I can assist with that, eventually. I am going to make it to Carlisle next year, but that is almost a year out. I could pick it up in one of the directions I must travel.

You realize I'm hundreds of miles out of the way, right? Like, almost 900? Meaning you're likely adding around 15 hours' wheel time one way. On a good day, Carlisle is ~15 hours from here, single-bladder drive time... and there are few "good days" on the OH or PA turnpikes. You're 19½ hours from me and only 21½ from Carlisle. You would, however, get a first-hand view of the filth and decay that is the greater Detroit area on your way down I-75. It's a lot like the trash compactor scene in Star Wars, only with an actual stench and much greater danger. :D

I dunno. A couple years ago, we drove to Memphis via Kingsford/Norway...
At no time during my pointing out the travel discrepancy did I say Stretch and I weren't worth the extra effort. :D

Hell, Dippy the Wagon detoured here and never actually made it to his ultimate destination... and that was during a week, according to he and the wife, that I wasn't much of a tour guide. :D

I think it would worth the drive, and on the highway my truck gets decent mileage. Hopefully I'll be in the wagon, but just in case...

I think it would worth the drive, .....

If you're going that much out of your way you're practically going past my door. The simplest route from S. to N. is past Milwaukee, and that's 45 miles from me.

Yeah, so swing by 68's place and pick up my repaired HP manifold! At least, I hope it's repaired by then... :D

The flange from that old starter won't work, it's about 1/8" too thin. I've been thinking of robbing a flange off of that oddball C-barge HP manifold that I can't give away. :hmmm:

Actually, MapQuest puts him on I39/I90 to Highway 151, going through Madison as the quickest route. That makes sense. It also means if he took the 26 North exit and stayed on Business 26 North, he'd pass within what--four blocks of your place, 68? 26 North (Business or not) is actually shorter mileage-wise, but I'm sure it's a little slower than staying on I39/I90 to 151... but hey, he's throwing 15 hours out the window already what's another 15-20 minutes, not including hangout time at Demesne de Mopar at Endl Empire, Jefferson-on-Rock?

I can easily enough slash a chunk of a 318 or 360 manifold, too. I've got oodles of those lately. Hell, I'll have a pair of big-block, uh, vanifolds as soon as I can get back to the boneyard to pick up my prize! :D

what HP manifold do you need?..ive got 2-3 sets ..all bigblock..my small block a body set i wont part with

I don't actually need one. I bought a set of pretty nice ones at the Jefferson swap for $100 but one ear is broken off the flange for the pipe, halfway through the bolt hole, on the RH one. The LH one is very good and still has a working heat valve. I bought them knowing 68R/T would not only be capable of, but would actually enjoy fixing that broken ear. I was right... he lit right up when I showed it to him (and told him what I'd paid for 'em!). I figured if nothing else, it's a reason for Stretch and I to repeat our trip to see him for the spring swap meet. They're for the wagon so I'm really in no hurry.

That odd-ball manifold has a different flange than most mopars. It's not the flat flange like most. It's made to fit a pipe with a flared end. I think it came from a mid 70's 400 C-barge. And I've only got the one side, that weighs about 30 lbs.
