Okay! Fine.

I'm heading west in July.
My brother moved out to Vancouver Island last year and we're going to visit.
I'm still sorting out the details of where we will be and when, but there was a smokin deal on flights today. So, I booked flights.
We'll spend some time on the mainland, too. Maybe a day trip up to Whistler to visit my wife's nephew.

July was a somewhat arbitrary decision, but it works because my daughter can book holidays in the summer rather easily.

If anyone needs to fly from Canada, check out www.sunwing.ca before midnight tonight. It seems there are good deals for travel to many places. We heard about it from someone flying to Gander, NFLD and checked out flights to Vancouver.

It would be cool to meet up with some of the West Coast 'nuts.

Vancouver Island you say, you might bump into 69.5 up there.
If we can get someone to take care of his mom for a day, I'd go up with him in a separate car, since I'm sure he'd wanna stay up there with his girl.

Hah!
We might be heading there in July too! :)

Seriously thinking of relocating to the Island in a couple years and need to go on a recon mission.
Where did your brother move to?

He's in Sooke.
That's west of Victoria, right on the water.
If you don't stop or turn at the end of his driveway when you're leaving, you'll be wet.
It's a Bed and Breakfast. He's a chef. So, breakfast will be good.

My oldest brother did a recon out there in December. He's looking to get out there too.

I think I'd like it too, but the grand kids are here and that's a show stopper.
I could probably transfer out there or find some other work.

Cool! I'll keep you posted on the plans.

i know sooke...my girl is in metchosin

if you get a chance..you MUST drive up to port renfew....the roads are.....fun and intresting as they narrow up and turn into wooden bridges..the views are a MUST

Cool. I'll add that to the to-do list.

And yeah, Metchosin isn't far away at all.

Well if your stopping on the mainland, even for a few hours, let me know....If my work schedule allows I'd love to meet up.

Wow maybe a few of the nuts will be moving out to the Island...that's pretty cool!

not at all..i WANT to do it on my bike..its on my todo this summer..some of the switchbacks you cant help but wonder how they get log trucks around them they are parkinglot tight 5 pt turn in a log truck?...in fact you can see the gouges in the road from trailers bellying out....its paved all the way to the end..theres a park at the end ..i forget the name..but its well worth the hike to the beach ...oh and the fire dept out there is clad in aluminum diamondplate

Botanical Beach?

The road ends in a loop and there's a trail that loops down to the beach and back.

I've been googlemappin'!

yeah thats it..up on a hill and its a steep hike down..VERY nice trails tho..honestly a golf cart could run them they are that nice..its WORTH the walk..the veiw and beach are to die for.....

to be perfectly honest..victoria and everything up there reminds me of oregon 20 years ago..its all feels almost identical..except the traffic up there SUCKS!!!!!!..my girl came down and was like wow this is the same..its missing one thing..the mossy rocks.....up there you will find hills and mountains of nothing but rock and moss....but otherwise its like looking into a 20 year back mirror in the towns..once you step out both here and there....its all the same stuff curves no one around and trees n views

our only real complaint about the island is lack of beaches....and your going to say "but its an island"..yes but "most" of the beaches are rock..its got its charm n all..in fact theres some that are just WILD ..but the sandy beaches are are north or east facing..and SMALL...and useualy crowded with hoomans...the beach in metchosin off cliff dr is a BEAUTY when the tides out...by far one of the best sand beaches we have found up there

My brother's place is going to be called Four Beaches because it's close to 4 well known beaches there - but I assumed they were rocky beaches rather than sandy beaches and you just confirmed it.
It's okay with me. I'm not one to swim in the ocean or even a lake.

knowing that area i think thats the stretch of narrow rock beach ..even when the tides out its only maybe 40 feet wide or so..and the rocks are all smaller than fist size..its..ugh...not easy to walk on as they move around and are by no means packed..but it stretches on for a LONG ways.....one of my fav spots it up there tho tucked away on a mossy rock mound surrounded by trees looking out to the washington coast

im not one for water either but i do like a walk on a sandy beach...even more i love runnin my rc's on em

But your :dcf: would make a great propeller :D

It does. In a chlorinated and well-vacuumed swimming pool where I can that no THING will swim or slither or otherwise come in contact with me.

Issues? What issues?

You haven't lived until you've walked on small eels in a clay-bottomed salt water river... :)
