Garage clean out sale!

Heh... saying you'd get rid of a 340 to get a 273 is like saying you'd get rid of a 400 to get a 361. You'll have a lot more money into it, but at least you'll be a bunch slower. :D

What did it bring, if I may ask? I'm thinking about hitting Stretch up for more money for the one he bought from me. :D

Yeah, like I'd actually try that. He could pound me on the head once and drive me into the ground to my waist like a tomato stake, assuming I was standing on pavement. :D

I can't help you there, Stretch. I don't think I have any connecting rods other than the ones in my 360, and you've got more engines than I do. All the small-block rods are the same forging after 1970, and you don't have to have floating pins in a 340 but if you want the floater setup you could have the ones out of Smiley's old 318 bushed. The only cranks I have left are two 360s and the steel crank for my 340, but I think that '67 B up at Kenny's still had a complete 273 with a steel crank in it (the one with the really nice interior that got stolen). Just like mine, though, it would have to be rebalanced since 273s have puny connecting rods.

Lord knows you've got a ton of other good stuff lying around for that engine... just don't forget to have hardened exhaust seats put in those 894 X heads.

That 318 of Smiley's is long gone! I think I scraped it around 5 years ago. I have 3 360's but I thought the rods were longer.

Nope. They're all the same. The only difference is that the 340 rods are bushed for floating pins.

Yes I knew they were bushed. I was thinkng the 360 rods were longer because of the longer stroke. I didnt relize the stroke differance was all in the crank. Now that we are taalking about it I do remember you telling me that years ago.

Longer rods do not change the stroke whatsoever. No matter how far you put the piston from the crank, it still goes up and down the same distance.
