Stretch
Hey! There’s no easy button for a body like this!
Well, not so much. My Moms garage door opener shit the bed last week so we picked up another one for her. I spent a good part of the day installing it today.
The track and motor assembly went well for the most part. I assembled the track taking care to follow the instructions to the "t" only to find out once the (not designed to be disassembled) track and trolley was assembled, it had to come apart. I followed the instructions and double checked the pictures to be sure I had the trolley on the track in the correct direction before snapping it together. Once I got to the steps involving running the chain I discovered the trolley was in fact on the track backwards. A quick check of the previous steps prove that I had installed it as directed. It was less than fun to disassemble the track but I got it. Bullshit over with right? WRONG! The reason my Mom had so much trouble with the old opener is who ever installed it had the opener track off center by an inch and a half and the door mount bolted to the door at an angle to compensate for the inch and a half. That explains why it would lift one side first and not seal to the floor on the other side. Cool! Problem solved by centering everything! So I thought. Once I started the adjustment up and down It kept binding and going back up.
After about an hour of screwing around with repeated up and down adjusting procedures only to have it stop a foot above the floor on the final step and then go back up I realized part of the problem was the spring on one side was so tight it was lifting that side of the door twisting it in the tracks. Adjusting the spring and cable on that side fixed everything. It runs up and down as designed now. So after that was done we took Mom out to lunch.
All in all, I enjoyed the day with Mom. Even though I let that damn opener get under my skin for a while.
