Reuters wrote that a French prosecutor is investigating FCA for“aggravatedcheating” in diesel emissions tests, based on the difference between nitrogen oxide emissions in test cells and on the road. FCA has denied breaking the law.
The main issue is likely the loosely written European law, which allows extensive use of engine control overrides; it is unlikely that FCA programmed in an actual test detection system.
