Fort Mac

That'a a big presumption... I wonder if anyone who has lost or is going to lose property feels the same?
The story I linked doesn't really go into specifics but all those offers of help were made last week, before officials on the scene determined that they might be getting a handle on things. I think Russia's offer was made as early as last Wednesday.

Well, because I believe that the focus should be on the good things people are doing for each other in Alberta, I have resisted pointed out what has been going through many minds out here: Which region of the country this is happening in, the fact that the fire is striking at the heart of Alberta's "dirty" oilsands, and that it's a sure bet that had this been occurring in Quebec or Ontario, the government's response would have been completely different.

Well... I can't argue that point. It has become glaringly obvious - and the link I posted furthers that - that the Feds are dragging their heels on this. Hell, even Alberta's Premier was awfully slow to step up to the plate and to seemingly fully comprehend what is going on up there.
I am pretty impressed, though, how a load of people outside of Alberta have begun pulling together to offer what help or financial aid they can. Seems everyone has fundraisers going or is gathering up relief/rebuilding teams to pitch in once the all-clear is given. The thinking seems to be that this is a Canadian crisis and we're all in this together. Fitting, since so many people have made great money for a long time working in Alberta. 'Course, the tree huggers and socialists don't see it that way, but no one who actually gives a shit worries about them anyway.

That is one massive, out of control fire, and hopefully once it's over, everyone can start the rebuilding process.

It's heart warming to see people band together during a disaster, and those Albertans are some of the toughest out there.

Having said that, why does Trudeau insist on writing cheques to help the rest of the world, but will not accept outside help with this ridiculously enormous fire?

I've remained silent on this issue because it's pretty close to home and is simply terrible. I sometimes smell campfire at night and wonder if the scent has traveled from Fort mac...

Shitty beyond words.:( I can't imagine losing everything like that. My heart goes out to all of them.

Story in the news this week was of a brother and sister who lost their home in the fires and managed to get out with just a few personal possessions. They decided to go home to Ontario, and stopped to overnight in Saskatoon SK.Fucking scumbag thieves stole both their trucks from the hotel parking lot with most of everything they had left inside of them.

I should have posted here sooner but how do you put the feelings you have for these people into words? I still have no idea what to say. Devastating, breathtaking, heartbreaking, overwhelming, None seem to be descriptive enough and I'm not even in the center of it living it.

I still have no words!
