According to the United Kingdom’s transport minister, Patrick McLoughlin, Volkswagen, whose diesels also usedinAudi, SEAT, and other cars, remains the sole company to have explicitly cheated on emissions tests.
Volkswagen Group has been selling cars with diesel engines rigged to sense testing and illegally altertheir behavior since 2008, according to the company itself. An executive blamed a small number of rogue engineers, though these engineers were flown in any country which had trouble getting engines certified.
While there are gaps between lab results and on-the-road testing, there has so far been no evidence that any other company has deliberately built in “cheat mechanisms.”
 
Fiat and its VM subsidiary both make diesel engines used by the former Chrysler, including the VM 3-liter diesel used in North American Ram 1500s and Jeep Grand Cherokees, and a Fiat four-cylinder used in the Ram ProMaster. (...) →
