The mystery of FCA’s unveilingat the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) has been solved: FCA ismoving from QNX to Android for UConnect.
QNX is a hardened version of UNIX designed for embedded devices; Android is an adaptation of Linux createdto copy Apple’s UNIX-based IOS. In principle, the three operating systems are similar, but Android likely has more generous licensing terms. The move may also have beenpart of the price for working with Google on connected and autonomous cars.
