FCA’s big airbag recall

Shortly after Toyota announced a massive 1.7 million car recall, FCA US has followed with a global 1.5 million car recall. Both concern Takata-made airbags that could send shrapnel into the cabin. In FCA’s case, there have been no injuries or accidents with the vehicles to be recalled, but as time goes on, the airbags become more likely to fail explosively (the defect is linked to temperature cycling, humidity, and time).
