Found out that an old high-school/college friend of mine died last Friday after a short illness... I'm not exactly sure what it was, though.
We spent a lot of time partying, laughing and joking back in the late '80s. He was the guy who got me stoned the very first time.
He was one of those constantly-upbeat guys that's always fun to be around. He relished the nickname "Mongo" he'd gotten due to his enormous stature... and yes, shooting him would have only made him mad. He was also a very talented musician--one of those guys who can play just about anything and sing like a bird.
If anyone out in the Phoenix AZ area ever saw a band called "Bit o' Jane", I'm talking about the really-huge guy. They had some pretty good local success several years back; I think they broke up and Mongo had been doing solo acoustic shows both in AZ and MI to rave reviews.
Though we hadn't talked in a few years it still bothers me a lot that he's gone.
Farewell, Chris... my thoughts are with you and my prayers are with your family. You will be missed by all that knew you.
