E body guys

Has anyone else noticed that most of the Challenger/'Cuda guys on forums are total douche bags? Not the ones here of course, but overall.

I saw the D-baggery quite a bit at Carlisle too, and the seemingly biggest offenders up there were the ones driving the obsolete E class Benz based models with multi-plug, poly engines.

There are good and there are bad. I'm a member on a couple of E-car forums and it's pretty obvious that a lot of those guys simply have E-bodies because they're the "most valuable" of the bunch. Much of the problem is that during the boom years, the Challenger and her ugly sister ( :D ) got so out-of-hand price-wise that only moneyed douches could play. That's not the case these days, though. Yeah, you're still going to need relative cubic dollars to play the game, at least compared to some of the other models, but pokin' and hopin' have saved me a bundle over what the "just write the check" crowd often pays for the same stuff. Yeah, I had to suck it up on the rocker mouldings and to some extent the Rallye dash, but don't be like 90% of the dimwits and forget that it's still a car. Places like RockAuto, Amazon, and getallparts still have plenty to offer you.

When you start hunting parts, if you run up against a wall definitely ask. I found a lot of stuff in unusual places, but diligent searching and patience has saved me a ton of money thus far.

I see a lot of the same mindset in gm & ford guys. They don't have the brains to build & maintain an older muscle/pony car, so the take a loan and buy the later version. Then they think that they are an expert. It's a lot easier to walk away than to stand & listen to their dribble. :dgt:

AND THIS is why i gave up on mainstream car shows and gatehrings..and most of the smaller ones..hell its why i got into micro cars..the obsolete, arcane, unknown...the "know it all" and deep pocket doooochebagery is alot slimmer

Hey Doc, I'll definitely do that.

Presently my biggest concerns/issues are sheet metal related, roof, hood, deck lid, fenders, valances, complete floors, 1/4 panels, trunk extensions, Dutchman panel, outer rockers, torsion bar cross member, a rail or 2.

Good thing I got this cheap enough that I could part it and come out ahead, but I have no intention to do that.

68, they remind me of Vette/Viper guys.

69 I barely made it over to look at the cars, stayed at the swap meet most of the time.

I was really disappointed in Carlisle this year.. I spent most of my time in the swap meet also, (half-assed looked for a guy with a forearm tattoo.. no luck). Everything was B/E parts.. Anything A body was '68 and later. C-body was nearly non-existent. Anytime I asked a seller if they had any early A body parts, they'd ask me "how early?" When I'd say '63 or '64, they'd just stare at me with their eyes glazed over. And most of them gave me a really stupid look when I asked about super six parts. All I need is one piece of super six linkage and an early A body v-8 centerlink.. you'd think I was asking about small block Chevy parts at a Chrysler show. That's inaccurate. I saw small block Chevy parts at the Chrysler show. I didn't see hardly any early A parts. It was kind of disheartening to see that the largest collection of parts and cars for the least loved of the big three, didn't have any parts for the least loved of their own kind. I didn't even get the chance to walk away from a vendor and laugh about how much money that guy wanted for a stupid centerlink. I barely made it to the cars. We went on Saturday, and I was with my buddy and his kid (who I don't have the heart to tell him is deep in the spectrum, pretty sure he knows and suppresses it). I shook them and spent 4 hours walking through parts. Too much to do in one day, but I tried.

At any rate, the whole show seemed to be filled with B/E bodies, and the people that love them.

Sorry, no pics. Same old bunch of cars from 4 years ago, wasn't worth digging out the phone to snap any.

I did see some insanity in the car corral, '78 Warlock for $20k, really rough LRT for $10,500, a mid 80's RC for $16k. Stuff to laugh at, but nothing to write home about.

I was selling parts cheap, and I left what didn't sell, I'm sure most of what I left was scrounged up within minutes of my exit.

If money were no issue, I'd have a '70 Challenger and a modern Challenger to scoot around in. As it is, I'm stuck with a slanted Dart and haven't bothered to look at the Fiat based modern Dart. Got a good deal on a Crossfire years ago and still have the "dog taking a shit", hunched over mercedes in drag.

Being a huge d-bag myself, I can safely say d-baggery comes in all classes of humans. Rich people just have the swag to own it [smilie=J:

Here ya go Resto, she's still on the trailer.

Got home and had to get ready for work. And for the record, 6 days later and it's still sitting in the same spot.
