Durango recall.

Well it's official, Diamler Chrysler is recalling about 600,000 Durangos for upper balljoint failure. Model years 2000-2003. The Gov't has been after them for awhile now to recall them and they finally conceded. It's about time....luckily no one has been seriously injured yet from these failures. Glad I'm not a dealer tech, replacing the same part over and over all day long would get old in a hurry. [smilie=e:

What i dont understand is how they figure the price of the repair at a grand. Its just upper ball joints, and they look simple to install to me. [smilie=e:

The dealerships are being paid dearly for the labor, they likely had to engineer a new part (R+D costs) and keep in mind they will be swapping out the entire upper control arm. A grand each still seems a tad high but not by much when you look at the big picture.

Ive worked at a few dealerships and warrenty work can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on the way you get paid.If you flag rate from the book you are screwed usually becuse the factory is going to give a fast time on the work. But every vehicle is different and it could take longer to do it right. If you are a monthly salarie employee, this all works to your advantage.I suppose with both control arms and mabeye some frame mods it could cost more. A friend has a dakota that has worn out 2 sets already at 60 thou. But he pulls a rail to the track and doesnt like the speed limit much either. He will be happy to see this.

I just heard Durangos AND Dakotas....same sheit, no?

well depends what year XL

i hear the new durangos have a different chassis then the dakota, but before they used the same chassisi think it changes as of 2004 that they are different

I quit Toyota over just that.Did new struts on a celica and they wouldnt give me .4 to set the tow and I got into it with the service manager, loaded up my tool chest and went home and got drunk. [smilie=e: [smilie=a: [smilie=a:

i was just thinking since your doing front end parts isnt it just stupid NOT to re align it?

Definitely makes sense to get it aligned - I'm just saying that they'll try and make you pay for it. It should be covered under the recall notice, but that makes sense and we're not dealing with the bright bulbs.

And here I am, the proud owner of a 99 Durango. [smilie=e:

The balljoints are tight in it after 75k though.[/quote]

The 99's are not included Bob, only the 2000-03 models. We had one upper repaced on Z's 2000 when she first bought it at 70,000 miles.

My 00 Dakota lost them all at 86K, dam thing got scary in turns. SOB's better reimburse me the $800.00 I paid for that job.

Well guys, just because they ain't recalled doesn't mean they ain't chit, replaced my uppers on the 99 maxi at 42ish K, mechinic couldn't get em out, dealer said replace the upper arms too, they were redesigned!!
Now if they knew that then, W(why)TH are they going through the same thing with newer models??????????????

I saw on the news last week that late 90's Ford F-150's have a very nasty tie rod end falures and Ford is not recalling squat!

At least Dodge has a sence on responsability! [smilie=e:

Hey Gio so you going to try and get them to reemberse you for the cost of replacing yours and get new one??? how do you know you dont have the same old junk under there now to just go out again in a few miles???
