ok it wont let me add more photos .....

The headlight bucket was dissassembled (i saved the glass bulb) and i sandblasted the bucket and welded in some small fabbed up patch panels and ground the welds down a bit. (just playing with the mig welder) Come to find out i can get halogen bulbs for this bucket from my nearest Wal-mart. So that makes that pretty sweet.

I also have the cab bolted solid to the wheeled cart i built for it so and everything is squared off and solid ... so i could work on sheet metal when i feel energetic. I had to use the two door frames to find the front cowl positions and the dorr width. So i clamped them into position and started building a temporary inner frame for the cab. Its all in position at this point. Pics come later

sounds like you are getting a good start! :)

DD2, you're a brave, brave man. :)

Need any parts?
Anything fabbed?

Just let me know, 'k?

well also building an english wheel and a brake press ... so time will tell

what do you think is best for cutting sheet metal? what do you suggest... air shears?

most everything will be either fabbed by my dad or me ... mostly me :).

parts you say? hmm model a front axle setup?

these are mostly all starting pictures so far....:wtf:

Here is some good reading on the subject http://www.armourarchive.org/essays/sasha_metal_cutting/

I suggest shears
tylertool_1942_226705200

over nibblers
clarke%20361.jpg

they give a better cut, no waste, and they can make complex and tight turns.

for straight cuts i love my angle grinder with nice cut off wheels..besides i doubt either of them would let you cut out window channel areas without cutting more than you want

id sugjest finding yourself a "surpluss" steel yard and picking up some 1/2 x.065 square tube..makes for killer temperary framing and is bloody cheep..and will be small enuf to use to re-inforce some areas of the body without going overboard...easily bent to fit rather complex shapes too....its what i use for most things ...i even made a rear fastback cuda window template from it for the roof swap i did

the 2 posted above. One is a single edge shear and the other one is a double edge. The nibbler is an entirely different animal

Well i got a double edge air shear from princess auto. It wastes about 1/4" of steel each time i cut, but it leaves a nice straight edge. I did look at the single edge shear like posted above, but the price scared the crap out of me.

I brought home a nice fresh 4x8 sheet of 24 gauge body metal with satin finish. Started messing around a bit with the welder and practicing a bit with it (been awhile since i welded this small of stuff) but i think i am ready to start forming some panels.

Also have the brake press almost completed. I will post some pics of that bad boy later on (when i get the pics taken) I did bend one small piece of steel when i was farting around with it. It works almost as good as the one i had at one of my old jobs when i made ss pig feeders. (thats going back)

SEND info on brake press. would like to build one to...looking good D... it shouldn,t be that hard to build oe i would think. tell me about it or call me ...ORVIL

brake press info is in another thread ... here is the linker
http://www.moparnuts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13667

so i started messing around with making a firewall on saturday. While finishing the aforementioned brake. Boy that brake makes nice tight bends :shifty:
I had to drill out the spot welds to get the firewall out. And then i cut out this sheet making it all simetrical. (as it should be) bent the 90 on the bottom and placed it in position. I think i am going to make a small bends in an x shape to reinforce it and make it a bit stronger. It seems kind of flimsy using the steel that i had for a firewall, considering what i took out seemed to be much heavier steel.
Here are some pics for some pleasure. Its not welded in yet because i didnt have time because the milk truck came :shifty:
(mom was on a camera frenzy)

NIce work. Roll some beads through the sheetmetal instead of bending an X into it.

Prettier and stronger.

looks good thus far.... something i wouldnt have the patience or area to do..... (rebuild a complete car i mean) should be a sweet ride when you get it done.... is it going to be MoPowered?

mmmmm 354 hemi...now ya realy got my attention..lemmy know what it costs ya to rebuild it...i got one too with 40k original miles on it

so after sitting around and thinking for awhile i decided to play with the door frame. I cut out the rusty parts and bent up some new stuff. After i had the dang thing welded in nice and pretty i noticed that the bottom that i added in had a radius on it.[smilie=2: I made it flat:doh:

so now i may have to do some more modifications to get it to the radius that it should be on:doh: but here is a before and after pic

oh and my dog Cheddar helped mostly getting pissed off that i kept throwing sparks from the grinding towards his chair :shifty:
