Hiding In The Bushes While
I pulled the 360 out of my 3/4 ton today.

Now I knew that the motor had threw a rod but I had no idea the destruction was going to be this bad!

The first look at the hole I noticed that not only #7 was busted off but #8 was not attached either!

Then I pulled off the pan and saw MORE carnage![smilie=2: This is exactly how I found it!

Yup the oil pump was smashed off of the rear main bearing and the picked was smashed to bits!

Now here is the amazing part.

When I got the truck home I primed it, cranked it over and not only did it start but I drove it about a a mile down the highway and back to see if the tranny worked, and that was with TWO broken rods and NO OIL PUMP!

Simply Amazing!:bravo:

The crank has one spun bearing which will probably clean up and it's a little bit chewed up on one counter weight but not bad.

I know a guy who had a '76 4 door /6 valiant. It eventually threw a rod, but did not punch a hole in anything. When they pulled the oilpan off and did a postmortem, there was one thing missing: A rod nut. That's right, one rod apparently was missing a nut-for 90,000 miles. It was promptly replaced with a 360, which then necessitated screwing the rear hubcaps to the wheels to prevent them from flying off and passing the car when the wheels were spun.

WOW! That had to hurt.I've seen many a blown engine but never one that knocked the oil pump off. A 360cu.in six cylinder with no oil pressure :bwuhaha:.
She must of had a rude shake when you dropped it into gear?I know the last Slanty rod thrower I drove sure did[number 4 connecting rod was layin on the floor in the back seat when I bought the car]ran so rough that it was shaking screws out of the dash .

MGS blew up a 318 for me a few years back, looked very similar inside, except the oil pump was still attached. Fired up and ran for a few minutes then finally gave up the fight. The number 1 rod was twisted, and bent almost 90 degrees, the piston skirt was still attached to the rod and the top was at the top of the cylinder against the head.

I am the BReaker of all motors Ford and Otherwise.... i've taken care of all the hard to kills.... you need a motor blown let me drive your car....

Seriously though... when i worked for the Dodge dealer i was working for.... (as a lube tech) the guy in the bay next to me had one of those 5 door whores.... (durango) in there with a 4.7.... the oil pan was off and filled with sludge.... and there was obviously no oil in the motor.... the customer was gettin screwed on the deal from a small car lot so he had it in there with no oil runnin the hell out of it.... friggin bearings never spun... the motor never blew whilest it was in the custody of the shop.... it wasnt any good when it left though.... that i can assure you.... but again like the charger geek said.... lemme see the general.... do something like that
