According to a report in the Nikkei Asian Review, Mitsubishi will close its U.S. assembly plant in Illinois and try to find a buyer as well as work for its employees there.
The plant once produced a variety of vehicles for Mitsubishi and Chrysler, but now only makes the Outlander Sport.
Don Swearingen, the executive vice president of Mitsubishi Motors North America, told Ward’s Auto last month that a decision will come this year.Mitsubishi has already ended manufacturing in Europe and Australia and is said to be focusing on Asia.
