Check out my double D's!!

I have serious issues, so I'm
I posted this on moparts but forgot to post it here. Please forgive me. [smilie=e:

After months of hard work, my husband and I got our '76 Dart Swinger done. We rebuilt the suspension, added a sway bar, changed the rear end to convert the small bolt pattern rims to large, converted the drum brakes to disc (all this was free from a parts car), did all sheetmetal repair and bodywork, painted it ourselves in our garage using PPG Omni basecoat/clearcoat in Spinnaker White, and redid the interior.

It's a 225 slant six, bone stock and runs excellent. With gas prices how they are we want ONE car to get decent gas mileage! We found a set of steelies in a junkyard, cleaned them up and painted them white, too. The bumblebee stripe is painted on. We also scored on a set of red line dog dish hubcaps from a parts car. I know we did a bunch of other stuff but I can't remember it all!

We did it on a budget, but still used high quality parts, and financed most of the project by selling parts off two parts cars, a '70 and a '73...that were loaded with goodies.

Here's some pics of our Double D's (as in Dart/Duster) [smilie=w:

Before:

Changed the ugly tail panel so we could bolt on a '70 style bumper:

Interior, we sewed a new front seat cover, put in a dash pad from a parts car, made a headliner, and changed the carpet. Total interior cost: $150, mostly from the carpet. The upholstery material we got free from my father in law's attic, he has rolls of original factory material.

A bit of rust! [smilie=e:
My hubby is an excellent welder and there is a bare minimum of body filler in the entire car. [smilie=e:

And one last shot:

Excellent!

Double D's... I was picturing Nodda and MoparMan... y'know, Drunk and Drunker [smilie=b: [smilie=e:

Wow! That looks fantastic. [smilie=e: The before pic looks exactly like the Dart my grandfather had. Love the rear bumper swap, much better than the mid 70's design.
I would be damn proud to cruise around in that Dart, it's truly a one of none! [smilie=e:

Thanks guys, it definitely is a one of none, nobody can ever figure out what year it is. [smilie=w:

They'll see the '73 front clip, but then notice the '70 bumper and the '70 quarter panel side marker lights, then notice the lack of vent windows on the doors, etc. We also shaved the front side marker lights since they stuck out and the rear ones are recessed. Lots of little modifications done.

We debated painting the hood scoop black but didn't want it to look like an afterthought, we wanted it to look like it was supposed to be on there all along. [smilie=::

It's beautiful either way! [smilie=e:

Looks like nice work.
I never thought that color looked good on the B and E bodiers I've seen it on, but it actually looks nice on this Dart.
Leave the scoop alone.

Mark.

Awesome Job on the pair!! That scoop is cool, but the rear bumper is a real work of art!! [smilie=e: [smilie=e:

As a side note,
... using PPG Omni basecoat/clearcoat ....
"Store it indoors.... The Omni paint covers pretty good, but it is cheap.. It will start to fade much quicker than the DBC.."

That is from my assistant manager; he thinks he knows all because he mixes the PPG...

My opinion: [smilie=e: [smilie=e: [smilie=e:

.

Thanks C.M.F...it is always in the garage unless we are driving it. I'm not an expert but I was told by someone that the PPG Omni clearcoat doesn't have the UV protection that the more expensive clearcoats have? I don't know but we painted my Duster over a year ago with PPG Omni, and so far so good. [smilie=e:

And yup, the bumper and new tail panel really set the car off, that old rear end looked AWFUL, I'm so glad we changed it. [smilie=::

Very nice job! [smilie=e: The hood looks good like it is.
I don't get over here often, but it is raining today and I can't work.
I used Omni urethane on both my Charger and truck (as well as a few others) I haven't seen any fading and they clean up real good. However, when I get a chip it is a good one.
