The new Charger is at least got some identity to it. You know it's a DCX product like you know a 300C is a DCX product. Does the styling excite me? No. It does look a little menacing, though.
Only because it has that ugly crosshair grille like everything else.

I can't personally say that about any Toyota, Mazda, and most Hondas on the road. They just look the same to me. Nissan is about the only one that registers as identifiable - even then I have to look twice at some.
And to me the Charger looks like everything other 4-door out there except the front end. The taillights are generic and the 4-doors are the same. The grille is different but only because it's the crosshair that makes it look like a truck. How does the saying go? It looks like a Dakota rear-ended by a Buick?
I'm not going to argue that it's NOT ugly because it's far from good looking. The indiviual parts of the car don't have much identity, but if you see it rolling down the street, you can identify it. (Although, I admit, when I see the Chargers on car carriers coming from the Brmapton plant, I have to look at the nose to see if it's a Charger or a 300 - but I'm usually going in one direction at 140km/h and the carrier is coming at me at about 120....)
My point was that if you put it up against everything else out there in the new-car dealerships, it stands out.
The high beltline is probably what does it. I don't know for sure. When it comes to aesthetics, it's an individual thing. Everyone is going to have a different opinion. For me it boils down to gut feel when I look at the car and it's an over all look.
The current LX platform just makes my gut churn LESS than all the other chunky-arsed, roundy-top, flat-sided, cars out there. I think the grille is ugly but it's growing on me like a fungus - besides, I don't see it when I'm driving.
When I see most cars on the street, I have to really look at the badges to figure them out. The exceptions are the LX cars from DCX, beetles, Nissans (but I still can't tell the different models), and there are others that escape me at the moment.
HELL even the new Beamers are starting to blend in with the chaff.
The majority of Mercedes that are running around here blend in as well. The exceptions are the larger models <-same for the beamers - the big models stand out.
I know where you guys are coming from though. There's a 70-something AMC Hornet buzzing around town that looks like it just rolled out of the dealership - little old lady drives it to the grocery store - and everytime I see it, it's the most beautiful car in the parking lot.
I prefer older cars for styling, but I need a modern car to earn the cash to buy the older cars. To me these modern cars are merely tools of the trade. I don't need my tools to be purty, but if I can pick something that I would enjoy more than something else, it makes the job that much better. (I miss my Intrepid. [smilie=s: )
As for the looks of the Charger, it's nothing a ground effects kit, a wing, and some imprezza housing wouldn't fix. [smilie=2: [smilie=f: [smilie=g:
