I think most of us would not have so many problems with it if it hadn't been called a Charger.

I just call it ugly. Doesn't matter what other name you put on it.

Besides, the nearest thing to it in performance and luxury is at least 20K more.

Hm - Krysler 300 would be the luxury performance model wouldn't it?

I thought the Chrysler was the rich guy's toys while Dodge builds the working man's car?

Dude,

43K for a Krysler? NIEN! und NIEN das ist VERBOTEN

Although at 30+ K the Dodge SRT8 ain't no working man's car.

Just like the SRT-10, I can't wait till next year when they'll be sitting on lots like Superbirds in 1971...covered with dust. Then I'll git em.

Its all good. Til I found out my head hits in pretty much everything Ma makes. :(

You need a smaller head.

(Actually, stop getting sunroof cars. I had the same problem until I got stuck with this Taurtoise - no sunroof - I can wear a hat in the car.)

You can take just about any foreign car off the list for me -

Including the Daimler Charger?

DCX is no longer a domestic car maker - 100% German controlled....

Pretty much like buying a bargain Mercedes IMO.

Well, I didn't say ALL foreign cars.....

The new Charger is at least got some identity to it. You know it's a DCX product like you know a 300C is a DCX product. Does the styling excite me? No. It does look a little menacing, though.

Only because it has that ugly crosshair grille like everything else.

I can't personally say that about any Toyota, Mazda, and most Hondas on the road. They just look the same to me. Nissan is about the only one that registers as identifiable - even then I have to look twice at some.

And to me the Charger looks like everything other 4-door out there except the front end. The taillights are generic and the 4-doors are the same. The grille is different but only because it's the crosshair that makes it look like a truck. How does the saying go? It looks like a Dakota rear-ended by a Buick?

I'm not going to argue that it's NOT ugly because it's far from good looking. The indiviual parts of the car don't have much identity, but if you see it rolling down the street, you can identify it. (Although, I admit, when I see the Chargers on car carriers coming from the Brmapton plant, I have to look at the nose to see if it's a Charger or a 300 - but I'm usually going in one direction at 140km/h and the carrier is coming at me at about 120....)

My point was that if you put it up against everything else out there in the new-car dealerships, it stands out.

The high beltline is probably what does it. I don't know for sure. When it comes to aesthetics, it's an individual thing. Everyone is going to have a different opinion. For me it boils down to gut feel when I look at the car and it's an over all look.

The current LX platform just makes my gut churn LESS than all the other chunky-arsed, roundy-top, flat-sided, cars out there. I think the grille is ugly but it's growing on me like a fungus - besides, I don't see it when I'm driving.

When I see most cars on the street, I have to really look at the badges to figure them out. The exceptions are the LX cars from DCX, beetles, Nissans (but I still can't tell the different models), and there are others that escape me at the moment.

HELL even the new Beamers are starting to blend in with the chaff.
The majority of Mercedes that are running around here blend in as well. The exceptions are the larger models <-same for the beamers - the big models stand out.

I know where you guys are coming from though. There's a 70-something AMC Hornet buzzing around town that looks like it just rolled out of the dealership - little old lady drives it to the grocery store - and everytime I see it, it's the most beautiful car in the parking lot.

I prefer older cars for styling, but I need a modern car to earn the cash to buy the older cars. To me these modern cars are merely tools of the trade. I don't need my tools to be purty, but if I can pick something that I would enjoy more than something else, it makes the job that much better. (I miss my Intrepid. [smilie=s: )

As for the looks of the Charger, it's nothing a ground effects kit, a wing, and some imprezza housing wouldn't fix. [smilie=2: [smilie=f: [smilie=g:

Or you could just put an "R" on it. That makes it much faster.

The only issue I'm going to have with this car is the price of admission. I don't know wha the resale value of these things is, but I'll bet it's down there with Lincolns and Chevys (Vettes. I would feel like a schmuck if my 35K car is going for 15K 3 years later. Take a look at the 2001 and 2002 Navigator and Towncar prices. Those cars were 40 and 50K when new. (Loaded 2005 Navigator is 65K MSRP [smilie=e: ) I can't imagine 30 or 40K of depreciation in just 4 years...that's crazy..

So that would be the only thing that would stop me. (40K of depreciation means you just gave up a Road Runner Convertible to own a Lincoln Navigator...nutso!)

and lots of hp-adding stickerzzzzzz!!!

Yeah, for stuff like depreciation, I fall back to a rule of thumb that my Dad always followed: never by the first year of a prticular model.
His reasoning was based on getting the bugs worked out in subsequent years, but nowadays, it'd be nice to see what kind of value these things will hold before jumping in.

Of course, if it becomes an option for a company car, I'll just put the Taurtoise up on blocks and put a brick on the gas pedal and run it up to 90K and then put in for a trade-up.
However, I likely wouldn't be able to get the SRT-8 model - just the base.
That makes the whole proposition of this car a little less appealing but I'd still be rid of the Taurtoise. (at this point I'd take a Beetle just to be rid of the Taurtoise.)

You dont want to get anywhere near a "fleet" charger, those are gonna have the crappy 2.7 v6 in them as a way to lower the costs to the fleets. We have 3 2.7 Magnums in our fleet now, guess how they operate at altitude?. I couldn't wait to get back after taking one for a test drive!. [smilie=e:

I hear ya.

When I got my Intrepid I was allowed to chip in for upgrades - I went up to the larger engine (3.2 was it? EDIT: yep it was. I just checked some pics) among other things.

The rules have changed and we can't add on now.

Still, I'd be happier out of the Taurus (which came with a 3.2 - I think if they can get a good price, upgrading the engine is done automatically.)

Bet you'd fit in my truck just fine. :)

There was a Charger on the lot where I got the truck. It was their second one, ugly silver. They'd already sold a black one, and had paid orders for a red one and a black one. Or so they said.

I mentioned Mercedes and the salesman said if you raise it up, from the bottom it's the same.

Girl 1: Dude... did your mom get a new Dodge Charger?
Girl 2: No, It's a Magnum.

Ta da! same effin difference.
