Charger or Magnum??

Hey guys, it's time to pick a new/used car. My honda will be handed down to my teen. I get to choose a new ride. New of course being used I mean. It's gotta be cool so I'm really digging the Charger, and the Magnum. I'm keeping the 4 doors having a family and all, but I'm thinking of a V8 over the 6. I don't commute to far and drive around so I think gas should be fine with a V8.
I want the Bluetooth and all those bells and whistles. I want to keep it under 25 as well. So what am I asking from you guys? What year should I start with, what year should I stay away from? Any educational advice will be well appreciated, thx .

Howdy and welcome! I'm sure somebody around here will be able to direct you towards an appropriate decision, but I'm probably not that person. My answer would be '65 Fury Wagon with a four speed conversion. Or any slab sided wagon, really. You can totally daily a fifty year old car, and even tastefully retrofit AC and Bluetooth in it. You'd be the coolest dad ever.

Ha, your numero two that told me to get an ol school. Maybe if I found and old school turned new, quiet on the inside, defrost, heated seats, overdrive, you better believe I'd be cruising that. But I have a old jeep, it's my ruggedness. So anyone have any schooling in the two cars I mentioned?

I'm not particularly good with foreign cars, but I'd suggest finding out whether the non-serviceable $800 driveshaft has ever been replaced. Both cars suffer from that Germanic gem under the floors.

Charger front sheetmetal on a Magnum would be the best option. The Magnum's over-inflated nose is ghastly, and the stylist that did the quarter panel and rear side glass on the first-generation four-door "Charger" should be fired, tarred, feathered, drawn, quartered and shot... and his remains burned. :D

The Magnums look cool from a rear 3/4 shot, but are plagued by the dopey nose as Jass suggested, and fuck-all for side or rear visibility. Also, If I remember right, the wagon space itself, isn't all that impressive. The Chargers have more years to pick from, are easier to find in any price range, and black ones make motorists buttholes pucker like Crown Vics used to, and for the same reasons.. If you're into that sort of thing. I'd still prefer to drive my beaters than own anything after OBDII, though..

I don't wear a tinfoil hat, I just think that new cars, (+/- from the last twenty years) are boring.. Really Boring. And most American ones were shoddily built.

ill second that..with only avery...very...very select few "gems" burried out there from 1975 to current..

if i had to pick a "daily" 4dr...ugh 4dr...id likely take a milano, or a turbo volvo wagon or a big ole BMW..sadly i dont know of ANYTHING american id want that isnt a truck..and even then..id be hard pressed to pick something...hell id rather take a sooby or a yotta

as for the original Q...imo id run with the charger for the simple fact of..hey its a cop car at its core..parts availibility will remain...for a long long long time

Hello, and welcome!

Based on your requirements/desires, I think the Charger is your best bet. As Doc mentioned, there are more years to choose from.

I had a 2007 base model SE with a V6 (it was a company car (and the other choices sucked) and it was a good, solid car for the 7 years that I had it.

For 25K, you should be able to look at a lot of Chargers you like that's more than a few years old.
Go back a few more years, and the SRT8 starts to show up as an option.

I'd take the first gen E class. Made up to the early nineties.. The last good Mercedes. Cheap to buy (parts are plentiful, but not the cheapest), awesome seats, superb build quality, straight six, available stickshift, decent handling, and soaks up miles. Sold.

Sorry, Flip.. I'm not actively trying to cram old cars down your throat.. Thread hijacking happens around here, though.

It's all good fellas, I have my old jeep to smash around and go wheeling in, I need something to have fun on a daily. The Mag is out, it's not practical at all, but I'm looking at this Charger 2011, Mopar 11? Thing looks sick, it's a "coloctors" they say but I will drive that shit daily. If I get it. Idk, I might get a Lexus [emoji12]

What kind of Jeep do you have? It's either a 5, or 7.. can't tell by the tiny avatar. I have that affliction as well, but I made a worse choice. First year XJ 2 door with the 2.5, and a BW4. After I replaced everything but the headlights, that thing climbs rocks, does trails and mud pretty well for a wheezy shitbox with no lift. Seriously.. the bottom end of the motor, cylinder head, and axles were the only mechanical things I didn't have to replace. Whadda turd.

Its a 86 CJ7, it's got a 4.0 swapped in, fuel injected, 35's, true tracks front rear, 4.56 gears, full cage, and a bunch of other stuff. It's fun as hell to drive, and wheels like a beast

What ever you buy, Make Damn sure it does NOT have a 2.7 under the hood!

Jester was going to trade in his relatively worthless Crossfire (70,000kms) and spend a fortune on top to buy a 2 year old car that can drive in snowy winters... Saved that money and bought a 97 CR-V for winter instead, so will sell the crossfire come spring.

1 or 2 winters and the CRV pays for itself, but knowing Hondas, it might go another 5 years 100,000+ miles.

Don't buy new American junk.
