We've been chasiing the soggy 60ft. times ever since we built this thing. Tried a lot of different stuff, converters, carbs (big/small), rear ends and traction control, with varying results; none great. So we pulled the motor out and down to freshen, and, add a new roller, with more leverage on the race side. We found evidence of bad valve train harmonics, intake mis-alignment, comb. chamb. issues, and even headgasget issues. But I believed we finally solved the poor 60ft. times, with a 10$ piece in the carb.:wtf: Still, the new cam, and prior issues were a need thing. We're also going to dyno this thing to get a real baseline.[smilie=::
And since we're hopefully knocking on the 9.99 sec. index, we thought it prudent to pull the 8pt. roll bars and install the 12pt. moly cage, and new steering box. Gone also, are the torsion bars in favour of the Strange coil-overs. And we still have the nitros system on board if we really want to make some real noise.

$10 carb part... jet extensions?

I'm interested in what you did to use the coilovers. What's holding the lower control arms in place to the rear at this point? Also, what kind of modifications did you make to the shock towers? They weren't designed to carry any weight whatsoever on any muscle-era Mopar and are notoriously flimsy on A-bodies. At the times you're running a pretty-decent wheelie seems entirely possible, and coming down hard would wreak all kinds of havoc with stock inner fenders.

What's your rear suspension setup?

I'll be watching for that first 9.99 (or better) pass. It sounds like you're on the right track, but good luck anyway!

You get an 'A' Doc. The answer is 'jet extentions'. We have never run nearly this fast, so the learning curve is, ongoing. Never even knew of 'em until it was picked up by my supplier/race library. Should make some difference.:D
The shock tower is now welded to part of the roll cage that terminate at the front frame rail, and was re-enforced when I first put this thing together. The upper control arm mount is very much near the original mouting area. The lower control arm, now has a bronze bushing and bolt where the torsion bar was, and a bracket was welded to the frame rail and the lower control arm, at the pivot point with bolts inbetwicts, incase of the need to remove the arm. There is no need to have and alignment done, since everything is in the original place.
The rear suspension is a Cal Trac with a split mono leaf, which should be loads for us. Besides, its easy, fool proof, and God help me,,, simple. We'll keep running the 8-3/4 with a backbrace until it granades, then maybe move up to the 9".

New steering box is not shown.

How do I enlarge these pics?

We're almost there.
Wiring is done and it all works. Bonus!
The majic bottle is now in the cab on the trans tunnel and the required plumbing to the 'atmosphere' is complete.
Interior re-installed around the new cage. That was chore.........
Tested the car on it's feet and discovered the coils were nowhere near what was required so we picked up some 'hyper coils' from Bear and we're good there.
Fired the motor and heard a noticeable 'cackle' out the limited exhuast. This thing now sounds nasty; not much like a sm blk.
All we need is to bleed the brakes and we're good to make that first pass. Still have to get those signatures to make that 9 sec. pass, but can't see that as an issue. My parts man runs a TS Mopar,(6.89's@ 202+)has already signed and has lots of pro mod customers.................
So now we wait for the next t&t..............

Went to the Stratford Weekend at Grand Bend. Huge crowd with lots of participants. Day was hot, but the air was decent. Finally got some decent passes on the new set-up.
First qualifyer we ran 10.38@128.
Second pass we lost electrical and there was no time to run a third qualifyer so we dialed in at first pass.
Third pass and first round we broke out running 10.32@129. I thought we were safe since it had gotten a bit hotter, but I guess the new engine is breaking in still. I suspect there's a .05 or better in it to see us into .2's on a hot day, and that's what I was hoping for......................
The boy said the car handled really well,
A bit of spray would see us easily in the 9's but I haven't the paperwork done yet.
No movies; I was to busy being pit crew................................

Sounds like a blast.
My brother in law usually goes but he's traveling this week.

worked?..how so i cant see them...

oh shit duck and cover an upgrade is comming..its the end of the world as we know it..all the critters locked in the closet will be set loose on the world

I hoofed the posts with the broken attachments into the dumpster.

Upgrade is done. Off to do some testing.....

BTW, this is a known issue, but I didn't see it happening here until now so I wasn't worried about it.

A few pics of the fresh mill with new cooling system.
A rather poor shot of the new suspension.
