I am trying to find out the difference between to carbs. One is a 6253 holley four barrel, It's application is for a 72 440 hi perf without air grabber. The other is a 6255 listed for a 72 440 hi perf with air grabber. What are the differences in these two carbs? Thanks.

Good answer R/T, however that is the only thing about these carbs. What does one have that the other doesnt?

I don't think he was being a smart ass. I think that's what the answer actually is. The only difference is the numbers. They're the same carb but the number is what makes them different (for date coding and for coding at the factory).

Maybe it's just me as a parts guy, but I'll bet, if you check the parts lists for the 2 carbs, you'll find some jetting or metering differences between them.

Now were getting somewhere. I know I can use that carb on my air grabber,I just wanted to be informed on the differences.

i was thinking in the diff of numbers maybe jet sizes, state regulation like cali vs. federal, or maybe bolt-on hardware that the air-grabber requires that the other doent need. i dont know....im still only 19. fuck it.

My listings put the 6253 as a hi-po application and the 6255 as a lo-po.

Is there a visible difference in the venturi size?

I have them listed this way, 6253 is for hi perf. applications without fresh air and 6255 is for hi perf. applications with fresh air, both are for auto trans.. I got this info from the 1972 chassis service manual. I only have the 6253 (nos) so I cant compare them. I'm pretty sure that the venturi size is the same. The air grabber doesnt connect to the carb, it hooks up to the vacume port tee where the power brake booster connects. There arent pictures in the manual that show the difference. Thanks for all the input!
