One of the first things you notice about Buster Ferns’ spectacular 1968 Dodge Coronet R/T is the brilliant all-white paint job.

Long before the Brookfield, Wis., resident ever got the car put together and ready to roll, Ferns noticed it, too.

“Once the guys at the shop washed it and buffed it, this is the way it looked … That was a big thing. That saved me a lot of money right there,” laughed the affable Ferns. “It was all painted underneath, all the wheel wells and everything. I didn’t have to worry about any of that. That all turned out nice.”

It took a little elbow grease, some parts chasing and some patience, but the muscular Dodge is now a real show-stopper. It’s all added up to more than Ferns bargained for when he went looking for a retirement project car about five years ago.

Experts believe there was one stick-shift Hemi convertible and eight automatic convertibles.

That one-of-one Hemi 4-speed ragtop be 6packrunners old car. :cool:

Well now, this one I can pick apart. First up, a black wheel did NOT come with wood-grain dash. I know, the wood grain is easier to find. :(

Wrong master cylinder and hub caps. That's all I can see from these pictures. :huh:

are those deep offset fronts actualy stock?.....

white..too much white..it actualy drowns the body and hides the lines...

As were heavy-duty 11" drums or disc brakes, heavy-duty suspension, swaybars, max cooling, etc., 15x6.5 wheels with redline or white-letter tires were optional on all B-body models including slant-six four-door Coronets. All one had to do was check the right boxes. The Hemi cars, Imperials and some squads had the 15" wheels standard, but they weren't exclusive. [smilie=p:

I know, as the saying goes.....never say never..............but.........:naughty:.according to the option spec sheet, 15's were standard with the Hemi ONLY. As can be seen in the lower left of this, and on the R/T ONLY;

Without looking into it further, I don't know if that's a '68-only thing or what, but I've definitely seen unrestored non-Hemi '69 and '70 cars with factory 15" wheels, including that ridiculous 1970 Satellite sedan in the Platinum Tent in '97 which I'm almost positive had G60-15 Polyglas GTs on it (they were definitely Polyglas GTs). Not many, for sure--maybe a couple non-A12 cars?--but the Lynch Road cars had the tire size written on the underside of the decklid in grease pencil. The '69 W23 wheels were 15" in non-A-body applications and to my knowledge were available across the board. Again, I could be wrong... I didn't look into it too much.

I see a few things as well...aftermarket aluminum radiator, MSD dizzy? White painted wheel wells, and no splash guard on the front inner wheel openings. If it was a late production "hurst" equipped car then it should have the reverse light on the dash just above the console. Not sure what's going on with the LH side floor vent pull...looks like an earlier 65-67 unit?

My nit picking is done now....:)

The high-end models, 500 & R/T's used a vent pull with a labeled, rectangular knob, and the lower-end models used the round plastic knobs, like this one. :naughty:

I knew it didn't look right...my 500 vert had the rectangular knob set up. Did not know that the base models had the round knobs on the cables....another tidbit of info for the old gray matter. ;)
