Gerald Moore will probably never how many other glitzy, gorgeous and somewhat overlooked 1958 Chevrolet Nomad wagons are still hiding somewhere on the planet. That’s kind of too bad, because it would be fun to know. For 1958, Chevrolet didn’t keep exact tallies of how many station wagons were built from each of its lines. All we have is a grand total of 170,473 haulers from the Bow Tie company, and that number includes all the wagons in the Del Ray, Biscayne and Bel Air series.

Moore is a longtime Chevy guy, though, and he knows for sure that the four-door Nomads are downright scarce these days. “To tell you the truth, I’ve only seen one other Nomad like this from ’58. I’ve seen the Brookwoods and the other wagons, but I’ve just seen the one like this and that was in Minnesota at Back To The 50’s. He had it all shaved and customized, but it was a ’58.

“That’s the only other one I’ve ever seen. They grouped all the wagons together [for production figures] and I can’t find out how many were manufactured. I would love to know.”

I've always fealt that the 58 chevies were some of the most beautiful cars ever made, and this wagon is a looker too. It's too bad that by 58 the nomad package had become just another trim package, and no longer a distinct model of its' own.

personaly i LOVE 1958 across the board...58 was a banner year for styling and alot of the cars were "1 year only" bodys

imo tho a nomad is a 2dr ......but this is still quite a lovely lady

my BIGGEST complaint of the car is actualy aimed at GM ....and thats the loss of the extra tail lights on the wagons....ford managed to keep the extra tail lights on its 58 wagons but didnt on the rancheros

i wonder if that overdrive works the same way the one in my 58 ford

I'm not a huge fan of that era either, but a '61 Newport hardtop coupe will weaken my knees every time. This is a nice-enough car, no doubt, but not something that would alter my path through a car show.

I love the '58 and newer cars. They were unique and very stylish. After that, cars across the board, for the most part looked like the designers used scribblings from their 4 year olds drawings. They were ugly as sin until about '65 or '67, then cars got good looking again. Just my opinion.

Yeah - like a said a very few exceptions - the canted headlight Chryslers being one. (Wifey loves them.) The '58 Plymouths being another. Otherwise most everything from those 4 years is hideous to my eyes. Seemed to be a competition to see who could design the ugliest cars...... Kinda like now.
