I am a old school Ford guy and have built many ’60s Fords and Mustangs and drive them in good weather. But in December of 2014 I heard by word of mouth about a 1956 Corvette project car 30 minutes south of Galena, Ill.

A guy owned it for 40 years and had put a price on the car due to health reasons. I mulled it around for a few weeks and I finally tracked the guy’s phone number and called him. The car was legit and a project car, and also a hefty sum of dollars. I consulted with Corvette expert John Hafferbecker of Stevens Point, Wis., about details and to make sure the car was feasible to restore. I knew the 1956-’57 Corvette was probably one of the most beautiful cars ever made! Venetian Red with white coves is a great look and very desirable.

That's the era of vette styling that I prefer. But if I "had" to pick one I would rather have a 57 - 59. Mostly because the 265 had some issues and the 4-speed wasn't available until 57.

And NOT that color. :dgt:

I like the look but like 68R/T says, would much prefer the '57 model. The quad headlamps on the '58 & '59s don't cut it for me.

I did 100 percent of the restoration myself.
Perhaps you should've gotten a professional to fit the top frame... just sayin'.

Pretty car. If you pull the Buick-lookin' buck teeth out of the grille and remove the scallop moulding and two-tone, it could almost pass for a Pininfarina design.

... Or spent a day or three fitting the hood... Most of them fit like that from the factory, but it says a lot about the quality of workmanship when you say you've done 100% of the resto yourself and the hood fits like shit... :)
