Canadians are immune to the recent hack of Fiat Chrysler vehicles publicized in a recentWired article, according to a company spokesman.
The reason is simple: they do not have the UConnect Access service which is to blame for the vulnerability. The service, provided by Sprint, sent some information, including vehicle ID numbers, in “cleartext” — without encryption. This hole has been fixed in a security update (see our instructions for installing it).
Canadians, and those in other areas that are not affected by the flaw yet, should still take proactive action,if nothing else then because the service may belaunched elsewhere in the future. (...) →
