Hey dude's, (Eh?) I see a lot of you are from Ontario, I might swing up that way. What's up with that Canadian vehicle inspection? How strict is it? I'm afraid none of my stable of cars, trucks, and bikes will pass it!! I like wild, LOUD stuff!!

In Manitoba you only have to do an inspection if you are registering a car, usually the seller does it before selling the vehicle though (it is called a safety inspection)

Out here you only have to inspect it if it's from outside the province or was written off by SGI.

Keep in mind, in those provinces their idea of a hill is lame, so they need no brakes. Lights scare the cattle, so those are bad, and floor boards make it so they can't "dump on the run".....

LOL! I kid. well, mostly.

In Ontario things are fairly strict....before it hits a road it needs to be inspected, things like steering, brakes, glass exhaust and lighting all have to be up to par. then they need to be tested for emissions if they are newer than 1987. Sigh. On the up side, that keeps our mechanics happy! :D

........I must be alittle different because I fail to see anyones point for crying about a safety, as I would think everyone would want a safe vehical for themselves or there family......A safety however does not guarantee that u will not be ripped off by the seller, but goes along way to try and prevent that. Put a clause in there that if it does not pass safety that they will take it back.....I get this all the time......IT JUST HAD THERE SAFETY SO IT DOESNT NEED ANYTHING, ALL U NEED TO DO IS FILL OUT THE PAPER WORK, I can say that is all they probably did as lots are an automatic fail for little things, and some are rejected because of being in an accident that the seller failed to disclose, and the frame is wacked....It truely is buyer beware...Kim..

Whenever they talk about raising the speed limits, I always wonder if it wouldn't be a good idea to bring back the safety inspection. Even with it's corruption it saved more than a few lives. scary whats rolling along side you @75 -80

We do the MTO safety inspections here - the standards are really pretty lax. Some shops let stuff go constantly, but I figure the standards are bare minimum, so we tend to be picky about looking the other way.
They only have to be done for vehicle purchases and transfers, and if your insurance company requires one.
No annual safeties required in Ontario unless its a commercial vehicle.

It's not about safety, it's about people trying to tell you what to do! Here's an example: there's a red 'Cuda on the top of this page that is jacked-up with big tires hanging out the side. COMPLETELY ILLEGAL IN PENNSYLVANIA!! AND EVERY CAR I OWN LOOK'S LIKE THAT!! What does a set of headers with a set of straight-thru "Thrush Noise-Makers" hanging off of them have to do with safety?? I just found out today that it just got WAY worse here in Pa.!!! I will put up a post!
