Can I EVER catch a break?

Obviously the answer is No. I swapped carbs yesterday on my '74 Coronet Custom 4-dr to try and get it running better. After firing it I tried to move it and jabbed it into first. Bang, nothing, motor is loading up, but no movement. After 3 quarts of trans fluid I was able to get it out by using Drive instead of first.

Turns out First is like a brake of some sorts. Slam it into first its like htting the brake pedal, engine doesnt speed up, the car just stops. Found out the other day that its warped clutches. Gosh danget! Oh well.

I was getting this car out so I could get ready to put it on the road for a winter beater. Then in the spring I'd try and sell it.

It runs okay, just the bottom end is loose and now the trans is fried. I'm thinking about if the weather holds just slapping the '86 318 roller I've got into it with an '83 998 trans that I know is good.

a lot of effort for a winter beater but I need one bad!

I have one of those with a slant and 19 thou original on the clock.Belonged to an old lady that just went to the store and back and the motor went away.

Why not just strap on a blindfold and wander through the yard until you find another car to drive?

Hey Jamie - if you need another junker, I know where ther's a non-running POS Mirada that's probably pretty cheap.

Seriously, tho - you might want to consider hauling some of that junk you have to the yard, so you can raise some money for a running car...just a suggestion, mind you.

Works for me-If one dont run go get in another one [smilie=e:

Well, the thing that ticks me off the most is that I drove this car about a month ago after swapping carbs and plug wires. It drove good, ran good, had some snap considering its a 318 and the trunk was full of junk (Them trunks can hold a LOT of junk!).

Then I parked it and now this. Maybe I was being too hard on it when I last drove it. [smilie=e:

I think I'll park it for now and come back to it later with a clear head, or maybe if its nice over the holiday weekend I'll swap that motor and trans.

I did happen to list some of my Junk for sale, so I'm hoping there will be bites after the holidays.

I don't see any stuff for sale by you in the classifieds here.

I need some small block odds and ends, and would just as soon give you the money as the local junkyard baron. But you gotta list it to sell it.

Yup - what Bob says.

You would be suprised what stuff works on old muscle from the junk you have layin' around.

If you don't know what interchanges to what - just list the cars you are parting out & let your pontential buyers tell you what they want off of them.

Might make your self some $$$ to get a decent, running vehicle with.

Or are you like my buddy who has become attached to his junk? ("prreeccciiioooouussss my preeeecciioussssss....................." as he hugs a rusty old hubcap.) [smilie=d:

'Tis true... I lived for nearly two years selling parts on eBay, most of which came from mid-late '70s cars but interchange with earlier models. Learn the interchangeabilities (takes a long time, but it can be done--I did) and you'll be amazed at the stuff you have that some folks really want.

Yeah I have yet to list some of my stuff on here. The local dealer on the corner has an '88 5th Ave on the backlot that he wants $850 for. Pretty slick car, black on brown, NICE interior, loaded up, as a 5th would be.

I would drive that daily and forget putting unreliable junk on the road.

Stuff just goes in one ear & dribbles out the other with you, doesn't it?? :D

There is also a book you can buy that lists just about any muscle-era interchange from passenger cars to performance cars.

I use it whenever I'm looking for something specific.
