You bastard! It hurts when I laugh!

Hey Beeper, I can relate. My major problem has been in my neck, though (and, yes, sometimes my hubby isa pain-in-the-neck, but that is not what I am refering to here  ) Had a head-on car accident way back in '82 (yep, also a member of that O.L.D. club) that eventually wrecked my neck.......long story short, I have had two disks removed from my neck. Just in the last few years, I've also started to have lower back probs, although not as bad as what you are describing. A lot of arthritis, too, I'm sure. Anyway, what I wanted to tell you is, last April my husband was taking off a sock in preparation for beddy-bye, and WHAM!.......major pain in his lower back. Like DCF, he spent one night sleeping half-on-couch, half-on-floor.....it was the only way he could sleep. Doc said it was muscle spasms combined with arthritis, and prescribed Naproxen and some heavy duty muscle relaxant, which DIDN'T TOUCH THE PAIN!!!! I called his doc's office and said we NEED something stronger, so he prescribed Percoset........now we're talking! That did the trick, he was able to finally relax and slept for about 3 hrs. on the couch. Cost him 3 days off work. Even now, he knows he has to be careful.
What I wanted to say is, after all my spine/disks problems, I knew there had to be more of a problem than just arthritis, so we called his doctor and more or less demanded an MRI, which, in Ontario means you have to WAIT!! So, end of August, this was done, and lo and behold, he does have a herniated disk at L5-L6...........not really a surprise to us. I don't know if you are in the US or Canada, but my advice to you is to ask your doctor if you can have an MRI done. At least then you will know what exactly you are dealing with, and will know just what exercises you should be doing. Also, it may not be something that a guy would want to be caught doing, but Yoga helps me alot.
Just my two cents worth.........

PS - Sorry for the "bold" stuff...........I can't figure out how to work those things here!

Went to work today and made it through a full day, stuck to light duty stuff and much stopping for a rest. The pills I am on certainly help and without them I never would have made it today, looking forward to my heating pad and a nights rest.

Beeper glad your doing better!

You paint quite a mental picture of how it occured.... but could you go back and edit it to where you got out of the shower with all your clothes on!??!?!? maybe I could start sleeping again.....

Good stuff, that. It's an anti-inflammatory.
That and some muscle relaxants was all I've ever needed since the first episode. Tylenol 3 was the most I needed for pain during the first attack. Even then I didn't take them for very long.

I've been told I have a very high threshold for pain, but I'm certain that it is only for specific types of pain. I'll quietly deal with a toothache for weeks, but I'll curse a papercut for the better part of a day.

And my back.. I know when it's time to take it easy, but it's mainly tightness that is the sign and not the pain.

Missed this post 'till I woke up in a littlle pain my self this morning. Glad to here you are doing better sometimes it just takes time and pills...

What I did last night to cause my pain... I work out every day now at my old age to control my type 2 Diabetes and I have been working with a Dr ad PT on my knee (it is better) have not done situps in a few years so last night I started slow and holding 40lbs over my head.. This morning I am paying..... Ouch I feel your pain a little

Naproxen: Back 13 years ago when I first hurt my knee my liver was still bad from chem exposure at work in the 80's and I lived on Naproxen and liver did not get worse. Good suff.

Back problems suck!! A while ago, I felt a twinge getting out from under my old beater truck. Didn't think anything of it, and it didn't bother me that night...

Next morning I couldn't even roll over in bed![smilie=2:

Ended up missing work, and dragging myself around with my arms / crawling on the floor, for about 3 hours, before I could get up, on my feet...

Hope that never happens again, (I'm sure it will, tho...)

Hope youfeel better soon!!
