Is what I am. Just got home from the emergency room after a scary morning.
Woke up this morning feeling great, until I stepped from the shower anyhow.
As I was exiting the tub I was striken with MASSIVE back pain, took my breath away and my breathing was difficult and painfull. As I attempted to get dressed sweat poured from my body and I nearly passed out..scary stuff.

Z rushed me to the hospital and after the Doc did his poking and prodding muscle spasms was the diagnosis. A shot of a pain killer and a valium eased the pain somewhat and I have some muscle relaxers and pain meds to take for the next week or so. All buzzed up right now and moving about is a slow and uncomfortable process, but I will live.

Sucks getting old.

Been there - but not quite as bad, I think.
It sucks for sure.

Something to check - how tight are your calf muscles?

Even if they're good, this exercise is worth it. It can't hurt at all.

Sitting in a recliner or laying flat on your back, use only your calf muscles to pull your toes up towards your face. Don't flex your thigh muscles at all. Hold that for 10 seconds and repeat as much as you can.

You accomplish two things - stretch the calf muscles and loosen the plantar Fascitisomethingorother in the bottom of your foot.
Once you are flexible enough, massaging the foot from side to side just in front of the heel is a good thing too.

Those two things get tight and your whole alignment goes out of whack and other muscles start to compensate. That's when you start to get problems and spasms.

I also do a similar stretch while standing on stairs - hang your heels off of the stair so that they are lower than your toes and let your weight push down but hold yourself steady with the wall or railing. You should feel the burn in the back of your calves. Do that as much as you can.

Thanks for the tips DCF..got a book from the Doc for back care also, will read it in a bit. Or take more pills and a nappy. ;)

Ouch sorry to hear that. Roxxy suffers from lower back pain from falling on the steps in 95. The Doctors both here and in Rochester said there was nothing wrong. She went to a Chiropractor and he said it was arthritis. I even suffer from some back and shoulder pain. And once in a while I'll move my legs wrong when getting out of bed and whammo. I hope it's nothing long term keepus posted buddy.

ouch, take it easy beep...

My neck stiffens, just like my schlong, if I work out without stretching.

Slow down on the beats in the shower :D

Ahhh I see you have passed the entrance test for the O.L.D. club. congrats. Next watch for vision that takes 4 or 5 minutes to focus in the mornings after awaking. And not from the party the night before. When you tell your first youngster, "Back in my day..." you really arrived.

Ouch, Beeper.
Back spasms are frickin' horrible.
I've been there a time or two and don't want to go back again. I've got two lower discs that the Doc says are disintegrating so I literally can feel your pain.
Take it as easy as you can.
Maybe XL can share some of his meds?

Amen!

Meds are nice and keep me woozy but it still bites. Bad enough I was home sick with a touch of the flu yesterday and now this.

Musta been a major muscle gone wonkers as I can hardly get myself onto the couch and getting up from it is an adventure in itself..... moving slower than 68R/T on his worst day.

An exercise program has been on my mind lately anyhow, perhaps it's time to implement it. Well, when I can move again that is.

Thanks for the intro 6pk, about that vision thing...it's already started.

Yeah that sucks.

Follow DCF advice though!

I have horrible migrain headaches after I slipped and landed on my ass and I went to the ciropractor and he said my tail bone was out of whack and that was causing my headaches.

After my re-alighment the headaches went away.

Real sorry to hear about that. I know what it feels like and I am definetly a meber of the O L D club as good old 6pk says. I here ya on the meds as I take pain killers every day to keep this old body working. Take care and get well fast. Ron

It's a treat, isn't it? Spring of 2003 - I spent almost all of it on the floor of the family room. I slept there. I set up my wireless LAN and worked there as well.
