Today, a companyspokesman said that the Brampton upgrade story was not true, in thatFCA has not made a decision regarding the future of plant.
Upgrades would likely be necessary to handle the next generation of large cars, if rumors of a move to new platforms and architectures are true. FCA has also been upgrading plants to replace old equipment, improve ergonomics and quality, and to save money on energy.
Mr. Source had written that the Brampton, Ontario plant, built by AMC andthe only producer of large Mopars since 1992, had already been approved for a major upgrade in 2018.
