Boy it just never ends, does it? - updated

BTW, the part that stinks is that the "saddle" on my press isn't wide enough for the gears to pass through and press the thing (and the bearing on the other end) off.

I ran into the same problem when doing axle bearings. I had to cut those off with a chisel, probably not a good idea on these transmission parts though. [smilie=2:

I guess the moral of the story is, there's more to a press than tonnage and vertical capacity. Remember that if you ever go to buy a one.

A die grinder with a small cutoff wheel is much better than a bfh and chisel.for getting inner races to split [smilie=e:

The inner race didn't split, it bulged and slid off. about 8 good THWACKS with a 5lb hammer did the trick.

The greens I took off were less cooperative, I grooved them with a dremel first, then a good THWACK cracked them.

Of course I had covered anything that could be damaged with the handyman's favorite tool, duct tape.

That phrase is soooo 80's, now in this politically correct world it prefers to be refered to as a "Lateral Impact Generator". [smilie=c:

"force impact generator"

[smilie=e: For some reason a LIG or FIG just doesn't sound right.

We could just call it a...

High
Impact
Tool

If it doesn't want to budge....just give it a HIT [smilie=e:

Ya know, I never really thought about a "LIG" or "FIG", but actually neither one works, I'll stick with "BFH"...I'll get the job done
