Bondo, oh Bondo, wherefore art thou Bondo?

HAH! I jynxed myself on this one. Was driving the car to a shop to get new striker panels welded in and when I went to pick it up the owner told me my transmission was leaking. I shrugged it off, hopped on my bike and headed over to get the car because it always leaked a little fluid and some people think it's a big deal (pssssh...). I get there and there is a transmission's worth of fluid on the guy's shop floor - now I feel like a butthole, but at least the car was finished!

Pulled the trans today and I think I found the leak...ugh...set backs...

...but...where did the piece go?

...oh...why hello there, Devil

Must be the wicked strong stock 318 I've got in there

...well, I wish that were the case lol I really have no idea. I don't even know if it could have been installed incorrectly enough to cause that, but I've replaced the engine and not the trans, so I guess it's just time to swap it out and keep on going. The more I dig into this car, the more I am relieved that I found something before it went wrong on the road: loose caliper bolts, lug nuts put on backwards (WTF), loose u joint bolts, and it continues on. The previous owner(s) don't seem to have known what the ef they were doing half the time.

That also happens when one doesn't have the converter fully seated and "draws" the engine & trans together with the bolts. My best friend did it to his (later my) Mirada during a transmission installation. He didn't get the second "click in" while rotating the converter and it wasn't fully seated. That was the exact result. It was leaking when I bought it; I changed the converter and the seal and never had a problem with it.

I did read that it can be from hanging up on the tc or putting too much weight on those bolts, kindve like you said, but I'm pretty sure i made sure to not let either happen. Bah, it probably was my fault if not one way then another lol I've been wanting to pull it anyways since it's been slipping, leaking elsewhere and shifting weird as long as I've had it.

Well I don't like it!... And yes, por 15 is all over the metal now. Is that a no no? I got their state kit and, fortunately, have enough marine clean and their metal prep to last several more jobs even though the por 15 is all gone now.
Go look at Rusty Cudas original build thread to see why por 15 is J U N K SHIT!

I have been telling people that for years, with explanations as to why but some people just love the to buy useless and detrimental things....guess good marketing pays off. ;)

When I had a set of rims blasted a number of years ago the first thing the guy asked me was if they had been coated in POR15 or powder coated....because that alone would have doubled the price of the work done.

Powder coating I understand, but why would POR-15 double the cost? If you give it a stern glare the shit lifts and falls off.

POR 15 plays hell with re-coating the metal with anything... Fish Eye City is a popular destination after a visit with that shit. Blasting won't eliminate it, only a proper solvent wash will.

When I took some parts in for sandblasting the guy asked if it was por 15, I asked why, he said it's a bitch to get off!
When it worked it was tough, but when it didn't, what a mess, I peeled my whole trunk lid in one piece, on rounded sections the tie coat primer & paint just flaked off over time, a few spots the por lifted & put cracks in the paint, & yet most of the panels & roof held fine for 10 or so & went sailing off to the UK to it's new owner!
