Mr. Volkmann was asked aboutcorporate average fuel economy (CAFE) and its impact onautomakers. The current long-term requirement is 54.5 mpg, though given various exceptions and classifications, Mr. Volkmann noted that a fleet average of 36 ismore probable, and explained the difference between CAFE numbers and window-sticker numbers.
