AAAAARGGGGG! I Hate Chevs !!!!!

MOPAR MARV

Manic Mechanic
A few weeks ago, I let myself get talked into changing the heater core on a buddy's 2006 Chev Impala and now I remember why I hate working on anything made by G.M.

What a falking nightmare ,front seats out, console out, steering column out, a day and a half stripping the dash out only to find this great big pot metal monstrosity that goes door to door and let me tell you what a total PITA it was to remove this metal mutha . Both of my wrists look like someone ran them thru a shredder, Twice ! We are talking some wicked sharp edges here. And They put bolts in some of the most frustrating places. Reminds me why I've always thought that some of these butthead car designers should be given a life sentence working on their own junk designed garbage!!!!

Add to the fact that its cold as hell out up here and I've got a lovely case of Psoriatic Arthritis in a bunch of joints in both hands now and touching anything that is both cold and metal is like asking to experience new levels of pain that no one needs to deal with! Ever!!! It was work for a half hour maybe forty minutes, run inside soak my hands in hot water until the pain subsided and repeat for the last week and a half.

My right thumb is now so stiff and swollen that I can't even write my own name or turn a freakin' door knob. And I still have at least an hour and half to go before I get this enormous pile of metal and plastic junk out of my life.

What the fudge was I thinking?

Hooray, Its finally finished !! No idea what sort of heat the beast had before all this but seems to be working nicely now. Time to get me paid and get this ugly P.O.S. out of my life.

I almost forgot to ask if anyone here has heard from Diplomat Wagon in the last few months? Looks like he's been AWOL for quite a while.

Did the heater core on my Dart the other day. Took 2 hours. One to do the work and one to find certain tools.

Dippy is probably going through a busy time, but hopefully he's okay.

Two hours, I wish, care to try for thirty hours and change? Kinda make me wish that I could kick the goof who designed the POS in the junk, until he dies.

And I'm sure the guy is going to ask me to change his power steering pressure hose and pump next ! Should be a cakewalk after doing the heater core.

I was doing work on cars in my garage as a side job for the past ten years. I specialize in old foreign sports cars, but will work on anything pre OBDII happily, and would take in the occasional newer car for a friend. I finally had to start refusing to work on anything GM or VAG. They’re so poorly engineered, and assembled. Don’t get me wrong, I like an LS motor as a lego brick for whatever you want to fast without class, but whomever designed the packaging, layout, materials, and need for specialty tools in those two corporations should have to work on them to collect their paycheck. Every other “technician” in the world works on Volkswagens and Chevys. They can keep ‘em. Give me the Alfas and the Pugeots, surprisingly waaay less frustrating

Yep, they all have a problem area or two. My favorite on my old Dakota is where some brain dead decided to place the coolant drain plug on the 3.9L V6 . Getting it out was a pain you know where but putting it back in , I almost blew all my fuses getting that blasted thing back in its hole. Next time I pull the engine.
