A12 - time to get busy

That's nuts, but at least they were small items, shippings gone nuts in the last few years, I buy & sell a lot of model trains,
I was shipping 20+ pounds of tools to Jass for 8 or 9 bucks, now a 3lb box of trains is 13 or 14 for the same distance.

So a full bearing set for 73 & just the seals for 66, I wonder who's a bit greedy!
It's even better - 73 was the model year. The bearing set was $30 something. $66 for a wheel bearing seal is madness.

I just bought 4 front wheel seals for .69 each, with $6.99 shipping.

I finally got around to cleaning up the bearings I thought were good. They are not. There's rust or something on some of the rollers.

Now I'm thinking I could end up replacing the axle bearings. Fun times.

FWIW bearings are cheaper at AutoZone than Rockauto. I noticed they were showing "same-day pickup not available", meaning I got the last two at this local store.

Bearing PNs are LM67048 or Set6 for the inner and LM11949 or Set 2 for the outer.

I'll not change the races. I didn't notice anything wrong there when I cleaned them, and there are non-zero odds that if I knock them out I'll never get them back in right.

I think I mentioned I found a pair of free 11x2.5" backing plates from a truck. I picked those up yesterday, and one of them might be too rusty to use. It's at the top of it so it might have laid upside down in a puddle for years LOL. The other one should be fine.

Either way, I finally ran out of nozzles for my harbor freight blast cabinet so I had to update it to TP Tools parts. Skat Blast® USA Cabinet Gun & Pickup Tube Upgrade Kit

I'm going to try to save that rusty plate if I can.

I stripped those backing plates down and I don't know what the actual size of the bolts for the wheel cylinders are, but I do know I've got three of them broken off and stuck in three different 3/8" sockets. :poop:

Do not believe those who say all you need to make a HF blast cabinet work better is the Skat Blast kit. I installed all that (had to modify the cab a little bit) and a new water catch on the air line but it still won't pick up enough media to do anything.

I'm thinking I need to find a couple of buckets to drain then strain the media before I try again.

They do clog up easy, my strainer was just a little too big, I shot a lot of chewed up leaves thru when I was blasting, they didn't seem to clog things up, I did notice my pick up hose would load up & stop things, if I kept it fairly straight with no dips in it, it worked well?

I know I know, things are taking way too long on my car

This is the world's worst video of my nephew's new car.

All I know is it's a 2022 Camaro SS with 600 HP. It looks like it's either a COPO or pre-modified. But at the same time, that video's so bad I thought it was a Mustang.

He's an electrician. Apparently money means nothing to him :D

Not that I followed what's out there these days, probably wouldn't think much of a camaro or mustang but that sounds good, get some better pics, get this old man up to date!

Yeah I don't care much about a showroom sort of a car either, but there's something extra going on with that thing.

Given my choice I would take a Mustang over a Challenger, and a Challenger over a Camaro. But I figure I'm happier with my GTI than I would be with any of those.

Good or bad, it's nothing like a beetle of any version. 220 turbo HP, positrac, huge brakes. Full leather and a Fender sound system.

It's no muscle car by any stretch but it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow, and it's not really all that slow.

That I would assume, With 3 sons my cars were always mid (81 malibue) when the first was born & then the 87 caprice , all full size after that.
They never would have fit in the cuda after they were 11 or 12, all 6 footers, all bigger than me & I'm 6'1"
Even during the gas crunch I had the 66 gto & then the 'Cuda & I worked in Jersey was commuting every day, lots of playing with gas cans, Dad in the auto parts had contacts & brought me home gas cans & at work we did oil service so had a couple of places we could go. If not for that I think I would have had to quit?

The nephew with the Camaro is about 6-5 and his brother is even bigger. Their dad might be 6' tall. Both the nephews are monster sized, scouted for college ball, but decided they were happier keeping things simple.

We just had a little girl so the most I had to do was to sell my single-cab pickup truck when she came along.

I pulled the axles last night so I can replace the backing plates.

No twisted splines, bearings are greasy and not oily, and the spacer buttons didn't fall out. I consider it success.20260324_175223.jpg20260324_175304.jpg20260324_175439.jpg

Yes I have to knock those studs the rest of the way in. That's as far as I could get them to pull in with my impact.

I've also got to knock the housing end studs out of an old housing to replace at least one that was stretched to death before I started.

I really should replace them all, but $35 and shipping + waiting is telling me I don't need to do that right now. It's going to come apart again when (if) I put a sane ratio in it anyway.
