A test

I have one new set of brushes, and 3 old alternators. How many times did I have to put those brushes into an alternator, install the alternator, and test it, before I get my car to charge?

Hint: I got as lucky as possible when working on an old car.

I'd say you swapped alts 4 times. The first three times didn't work on your old ones, so you went to the local auto parts store and bought a rebuilt unit. And after you installed the new alt you got lucky. [smilie=b:
