69 Cuda test drive

I have a customer who wants me to swap out his ported X heads and intake for a set of Edelbrock heads and intake and cam...
well he brings his car by my place last night and this thing comes rumbling up the driveway[smilie=2:...first thing I hear is solid lifters ticking away..[smilie=2: he told me it had some hyd cam in it...this thing is rockin and rollin :2thumbs: sounds really STRONG...
the next thing I notice is the back of an old Moroso mechanical tach...way cool..!!
this Cuda screams 1977...
Open the hood...it's got an old Accel tach drive dist...M/T valve covers...a real nice set of headers by ED on it...
So we go for a drive out into the industrial area...he gets on it and shifts just as I think it's starting to make power...I tell him to buzz it a little higher...he says REALLY...I say yep...so he goes for it and all we get is a lot of missfire...we go back and I toss in some fresh plugs and go get a couple of old style Chevy points to put in...I set the valves and tune it up and it's a WHOLE bunch nicer now...quiet...and fairly crisp.I don't have time to fix his carb so I put on an old Barry Grant 950 stage3 carb that I like to use for tuning purposes..
Let me tell you did that wake it up...I couldn't stop there so I pulled out an MSD 7AL2 and laid it on the floor on the pass side and hooked it up...
Boy did that wake it up...it sounds SERIOUS out the pipes..!! this is a stock 340 with 63000 miles on it with a set of ported iron heads a cam and a Moroso oil pan ...it sounds REALLY GOOD...crisp idles nice at 900 rpm...
I had to fight him for the drivers seat;)...
Well this thing FLYS..!! 7200 RPM...everytime I pulled a gear the car jumped forward...never laid down...maybe dropped a 1000 rpm between gear changes...what a great little car...
So when we got back to my place I made him an offer on his Cuda...:giggedy:he said he would let me know Friday...

That's killer story. must of been so much fun. makes me want to pound the shit out of CUDA on the street. lol give er.

:bravo::bravo:

Randy...

I told him to bring it by because I wanted to see what I was in for when I do the swap...and low and behold this little gem comes up the driveway...very old school and very fast.just the way I like them...I offered him more than it's worth...but it only has 60000 miles on it.

:bravo: i like the old school look also :bravo: if you get it your know well need to see pics of it and lots fo them . good luck :bravo:

Never even crossed my mind...was having too much fun driving around.
Plus he wanted to get out a pull a few gears as this car has been sitting more than it's been on the road...plus it's never run this strong...it ran 12.20's back in the day...it's in the 11.00's now :giggedy:

:vroom:Sweet!!! Hell even if you pay too much now it's not like you'll lose any if you have to sell it in a few years the way old Mopars appreciate. And uhh, by the way...

:nopics:

:(...after the tune up he says he wants to drive it now...He says he doesn't ever remember it being this fast...I put a Holley Strip Dominator on it for him also...really fast car for factory pistons and ported iron heads...

it's too bad...I really got excited there for a moment :(

he's going to swing by on Friday and pick up some fuel to try in it this weekend...I'll ask him if it's alright to post some pictures of his Cuda...

that sux :( owell maybe next time . pics would be cool if you get a chance and he is willing to have the CUDA posted on the net :bravo:
