440 timing chain surprise

Yesterday I just pulled what might be the only original 40+ year old big block chrysler timing chain without significant nylon teeth breakage. It was in the '69 new yorker I'm working on with only 83k on it. The chain is fairly stretched, but it had no real nylon loss. I've seen them so bad the nylon plugged up the oil pickup and scrapped the motor. This one is getting a cheap summit double roller setup. I think I'm gonna advance the cam 2 degrees to give it more torque. Piston/valve interference isn't a concern-the engine is stone stock.

Well, the low mileage definitely explains some of it... but apparently no owner of the car has ever passed anyone on the highway!

the hell were companys thinking when they went to PLASTIC for that......ive seen ones so gone the teeth under it were shapened

Wasn't it for noise reduction? I've only ever seen one intact, cracked but all there. It was a '77 Volare, 318, and it ran great, that was the first motor I put in my Challenger. I traded an almost rusted in half '72 Camaro with a 307 Chevy for that car straight up.

Yeah, it was for noise reduction. I've never seen one in the aftermarket, though. They were all solid metal.
