360 Magnum Carnage

Back in the summer I bought a 360 Mag for what I thought was a good deal to hang on to until a body showed up. I assumed it had normal Magnum issues like cracked heads, but for $75 I knew what I was getting into, or so I thought.

Last night I yanked the left side head and all of the exhaust valves were bent, pistons had a couple marks but nothing serious, so I thought hmmm, what could cause this... I yanked the right side a short time later, exhaust valves 2, 4, 8 were bent and piston number 6 was at the bottom of the cylinder, cocked sideways. I spin the motor over on the stand and pulled the pan to see what it looked like down there. Unfortunately I didn't snap pics until I pulled it apart.

Here's what I found, leading up to about 400 lbs of scrap metal.

How many pistons were broken? Is that the shattered remains of one at which the oil pickup is sorta pointing, in the middle?

Yes, I think that piston is #5. There are 2 broken pistons, 5 & 6, one piston is in the crook of the oil pump and pickup, the other obviously is by the intact rod. Number 5's rod is in the upper left hand side of the pic. #6 rod is in at least 3 pieces and the pin from 6 is lying there like an orphan next to the pickup. That thin piece of metal on the upper right hand corner of the box is a bearing.

Well that sucks....not even worth it's weight in scrap! :(

But I do enjoy carnage pics like that ....;)

That'll buff right out. :2thumbs:

Sorry for the second post. The first one didn't show up after being off the web since I posted the first. Weird.
