1978 Chrysler Cordoba - $11,500 - Denver, CO - Call David for more info: 303-947-0444
I bought this 1978 Cordoba from it's original owner just North of San Francisco. I flew in and drove it back. That's how nice it was and it's even nicer now.
About the Car: The Cordobas were the highest permutation of the B Body. That's right. Underneath the skin this is actually a roadrunner. However, immensely more refined with lower ride height, much better sound insulation, and a higher level of sophistication. The Cordobas were introduced in 1975 to battle with the Monte Carlos and the Ford Thunderbird. It initially sold extremely well because you could buy a Chrysler for just a little more than a Chevy. The long hood short deck design showed extremely well on this little Chrysler. The base power plant in 49 states was the 400 2 BBL with the 400 4 BBL and 360 4 BBL being optional. In California, this car came with a 360 BBL as the top option. The 400 was not available. However, and only for California, it seems that this is the Police 360 as it has no lean burn on it.It also has 100 Amp alternator and heavy duty cooling.
I sold and drove these cars new and this vehicle accelerates harder than a 404BBL did in 1978. The car is stunningly original with only minor detailing done to the engine and engine bay. Unfortunately, that also means that is has the original Chrysler paint on it which really isn't all that good. The hood appears to have been worked on (but not the rest of the front end) and is very presentable but I can't say that it's original paint. A full host of options are on this car including: Leather, buckets, console, power sun roof (first year for power), stereo (4 speaker stereo 8 track AM/FM), rear defrost, cruise, delay wipers, Chronometer, right hand remote chrome mirror, chrome mirrors, pin stripe, trunk release. In fact, oddly, the only option this doesn't have is the trunk finish group so there is no carpet in the trunk.
What's wrong with the car: As mentioned before, the hood and only the hood appears to be repainted and is chipping and should be repainted again but it's not that obtrusive. When I received the car, it had an original set of true-spoke wheels on it, which were too far gone and too ugly to put back on the car. So I choose the current wheel cover and steel wheels simply because they are my favorite but they may not be correct. Also, it came with a period correct alarm with a key hole that protrudes out of the left fender. It does not function however I left it on for a bit of nostalgia. All the engine paint and accessories you see are original with the exception of the front water pump, some brackets, and a couple of other minor touch ups. The right rear bumper filler has shrunken a bit because of heat from the exhaust pipe. My goal was to preserve what was there, not to restore it beyond the original car.
This Cordoba was the prized possession that was bought in 1978 to celebrate the original owners graduation as a journeyman electrician. He treasured this car and beyond even the legendary condition of California cars, this one was kept indoors. Other than the minor cosmetic things I have done to it, I did rebuild the transmission as it wasn't absolutely perfect. Our 134 replaces the original 112 and works beautifully. It is a pure driving and distinctive disco era car.

I wish they all could be California cars. These remarkable photographs of this extraordinary car explain why California cars are so sought after. How many times are you going to buy a vehicle this old that still has the original color coding on the front knuckle. I can’t say enough about how untouched, pristine and original this car is. If you wanted to do a 100 point undercarriage restoration because of how kind the California climate is to even bare metal that exists underneath this car, it would be extremely simple to do. As you can see, it is just nearly perfect and it reflects all the way through the car. Along with the previous described work I did on the engine, I failed to mention I replaced the rear main seal. When I paint engine parts I do it with acrylic enamel and primer applied with a spray gun and that is why the oil pan looks so nice.
