1965 Dodge Charger - $45,000 - Atascadero, CA - This is the earliest known 1965 Dart Charger 273. Fewer than 15 are known to exist of 180 Dart Chargers built at the L.A. factory. Only a handful have been restored. Some history of this car can be seen at www.65charger273.com, and this car can be seen on the cover of Collectible Automobile, April 2016 issue. Other recent stories of these little-known but increasingly popular cars can be found in and on the covers of the November, 2015 Mopar Collector's Magazine and in the January, 2015 Mopar Action magazine (as well as on uTube). This car won 1st Place early A Body (in its first entry) at Mopar Spring Fling 2015 in Van Nuys, California. Restoration included paint, complete interior, engine, transmission, steering and front end. Work was completed in 1997. The four barrel engine was originally rated at 235 HP, and cars with Doug Thorley headers were rated at 275 in the day. This car has been garage kept and driven sparingly since restoration. Engine breathes through Doug Thorely headers (optional in the era through Chrysler racing) and runs with an Offenhauser intake and an electric-choke Carter carb (original manifold and original Carter carb are included in sale). Car has a 904 transmission shifted on floor, power steerting and power brakes. Vinyl top may be original. Receipts for restoration are available upon request and included also. This car is priced as suggested by Collectible Automobile in the issue mentioned above. These little-known, early muscle cars are fast and hot, and highly popular with Chrysler afficianados. They are historically important to the era: the 273 engine itself is important also as the first L.A. "wedge" engine that was first in the family: 273-318-340-360.Link to ad on Hemmings.com
