1962 Chrysler 300 - $7,900 - Chatham, NJ - The 1962 Chrysler 300
This is a 1962 Chrysler 300. The body style is a 4-door hardtop. The original and current drivetrain is the 383 cid GoldenLion V8 with the Carter 2 barrel carburetor, producing 305 horsepower and 410 ft lbs of torque. The original and current transmission is the 3-speed automatic TorqueFlite. All original drivetrain numbers are matching. This is not a letter series car.
This car is almost entirely original. It has the original Bermuda Blue paint in very good condition. The Bermuda blue is considered less common and more desirable on the antique Chrysler market today. The original interior is very clean and in excellent condition. The rear 300 medallions are original and in very good shape. The car has been garage kept its entire life.
This 1962 Chrysler 300 has very little rust on it, which is considered quite rare not only for its old age, but because of the excesive rain and salted roads in this part of the country. But this car has not seen harsh weather in several decades.
The Dougherty family is the second owner of the car. The original owner Mr. Denman purchased the car in October of 1961 from a dealership in eastern Pennsylvania and kept it in New Providence, NJ for 40 years. He was undoubtedly fanatical about the maintenance and cleanliness of his car. When the Dougherty family purchased the car from the original owner they began the restoration process, which made the car as fine and functional as it is today.
The Dougherty family purchased the Chrysler in October of 2001 as a father-son restoration project. It is time for son to move out and father to get his garage back. The time has come to part with the beloved 300.
Key Features
All maintenance has been completed on the car with a written record of all the work. All of the restoration work is listed as well. Everything works in the car. There are some minor modifications to the engine to improve drivability, but all of the original parts have been kept and stored. Some modifications include a high flow air filter, a high flow muffler, and electronic ignition. All fluids have been changed with high performing synthetics, including Royal Purple products. The original paperwork is included, including the owner’s manual, the service manual, advertisements from the dealership and more. The car starts on a dime, runs very strong, is very smooth and straight. The car has no recorded accidents.
The 383 cid engine runs notably well on modern gasoline. The TorqueFlite transmission has been considered one of Chrysler’s most reliable designs, has been compared to Rolls Royce transmissions for its smoothness and performance, and is still used in the auto industry today. Car reviews of its time noted the great performance this car has in poor weather conditions. The 1962 Chrysler 300s were considered high performing and prestigious cars, and when driven one understands why.
Suggested Work
Most old and original cars need a little TLC. There is a minor audible exhaust leak from the right exhaust header gasket. The headlight switch does not turn on the dashboard lights, so an additional switch was installed to bypass the headlight switch to run the dashboard lights. The quarter panels have some minor rust at the bottom, but this is typical for these cars from the northeast. The spare tire needs replacing.

It looks like a pretty nice car for the asking price, and not much work needed to make it very original.
