1952 Studebaker Commander - Auction - Harvey, LA - The 1952 Commander was the premier series of the Studebaker line. Most notably the Starlight model featured a four panel wrap around rear window. The bullet nose was forgone in '52 and replaced with a blunt front end that was at the time referred to as the "shovel snout" and "clam digger". The bulging front hid beneath it Studebaker's 232.6 cubic inch displaced 120 HP V-8. This V-8 was the only low displacement, high efficiency V8 produced in mass by an American Company in 1952. The Commander measures in at 197.5" in length, has a 115" wheelbase and weighed just 3,030 lbs helping the engine reach over 25 mpg. In 1952 the Commander competed in the Economy Run, traveling from Los Angeles to Sun Valley, Idaho, and finished second, notably to the Studebaker Champion. The State Starlight model came with a top of the line trim package and this vehicle sports the windshield shade, driver and passenger window shields, dual spot lights and power antenna. Just 3,748 Commander State Starlight coupes were built out of the 84,910 total Commander production. This which is now part of a private collection has recently received a frame off restoration and will be sold at No Reserve in New Orleans.Link to ad on Hemmings.com
