Rusty's not very quiet cuda progress

I'm out of the loop as to what's out there now and for how much. Been over 10 years since I've stepped into a booth... I've used SATA guns, Binks, DeVilbiss, Sharpe, Anest-Iwata, and have had excellent luck with all of them. The Iwata guns are certainly among the best I've ever used, but they're...

A $1000 paint gun... you're not talking a good gun: you're talking top shelf stuff. Honestly, if what you're using is capable of a good 6 at 6 spray pattern with fine droplets, it's good enough. The top-line stuff is really designed for the guys who have them in their hands for hours at a time...

    someone come get it

From the little I understand of the GT option, most were slant engines, and the biggest option was the 318. They were available with a bench, with GT upholstery. I bet the bench is rare,as is the tree stick. $2000 is an excellent price as long as the roof frame is in good shape.

    Dottie...

What were we thinking!? This little bundle of cuteness came home with us last Saturday. English Springer Spaniel, tri-colour female, at 11 weeks old. It just wasn't the same here, with Lola gone, so we went out "just to look..." Yeah. We all know how that one plays out. ;) She's tinier than...

    Sunday go-to-meetin' car: 1968 Valiant 100

I would have been all over that car for $1500! That is exactly my idea of a daily driver. Exactly. I wouldn't be able to resist a body & paint, especially with how nice the body is, and I'd likely go with an OD trans, but that would be the extent of it. Plus an interior, of course.

If the fender has a "Coated with EDP" stcker on it, and you can't wash it off with a rag soaked in lacquer thinners, you're good to go. Just check for any obvious signs of delamination. Scuff it REALLY well with either a new red scotchbrite pad, or some 280-320 grit paper.

A sad week in the resto household.

Last Thursday, the 4th, this little left us. She was my near-constant companion for 12 years, 4 months and 21 days. A good life, filled with loads of love. Even though we have two other dogs and three cats, Lola left a huge hole. :(

    Polishing a turd...

Too warm to be doing this kind of work! Flash times in hot and humid weather... yeah, if you say so. ;) But, it's almost done. Somehow, I missed taking any after pics of the welded rocker, but it is welded.

Lead???? No frigging way. There are much better products on the market than lead. And this bus isn't a candidate for most of them! :)

    Polishing a turd...

On to the rust work... Not the easiest of jobs when the intent is to disturb/remove as little as possible. I hate it when folks don't replicate factory seams, so there was a little extra work here. 2 hrs to get to what you see in pic 1, 2.5 for pic 2, and 2,5 again for pic 3. The rocker also...

I'm lucky if I can handle 3 hours a day. With the heat lately, and a back that's letting me know that it's had enough, I think I got in 4 hours on the VW bus this week.

    Polishing a turd...

I did a LOT of metal work on the right rear quarter, rear corner, and rear panel on this Westy last summer. A cool old bus, but a ratty one, nonetheless. It's back this year for another go-round, this time for mostly dents, chips, blisters and some metal work to the right front dog leg. Nothing...

Honestly it's easier to just spray a coat of bse over the whole panel. But, if you're willing to experiment, you'll need to either use a blending solvent for the base, or do it over a wet-bed. A halo-effect is metallic stand-up, and gives the same look as if you've sprayed base over too-deep...

It's called a halo effect... and there are ways to get around it, but it's a practiced art.

A friend of mine here in town bought a '50 Ford coupe two years ago. He's a piping designer for the local chemical industry. Never had a sanding block or welder in his hands... he did all the work himself on the Ford, including a garage overhaul of the SBC, and spraying it hot rod black in his...

I was spraying some parts last year in the driveway. Nice calm Sunday morning. No traffic, very light breeze from the south, around 7 AM. Good, right? It was... until the city decided to mow the park next door. Just about ready for the 2nd coat of clear, and they show up. Who else lives in a...
